    Job Summary:

    The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies at UFV invites applications for an instructor in our Welding Program area for the academic year.

    Under the general direction of the Director of the School of Trades, Faculty of Applied & Technical Studies, the Instructor will organize, develop, manage, and instruct Welder programming.

    Qualifications:

  • We seek a dynamic individual, fully qualified as both a Class "A" welder by Technical Safety BC and an "A" level welder certified by SkilledTrades BC. Note: If you do not hold a current Class "A" a job test will need to be performed.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with additional certification in one of the following areas: Boilermaker, Pipefitter, Metal Fabricator, or equivalent.
  • A Level "B" Interprovincial Red Seal Welder with additional certifications may also be considered.
  • Must have current knowledge of the province's Welding curriculum along with a strong industry background.
  • The successful candidate should have some experience with program and curriculum development and be familiar with CWB and ASME codes and standards.
  • A diverse background including a high level of knowledge and exposure to the latest technology used in the welding industry today.
  • Supervisory experience; leadership qualities; good interpersonal skills; good oral and written communication skills; and a working knowledge of computers and various software applications
  • A demonstrated ability to teach and support the diverse student population served by UFV as an open access university. Experience in developing and delivering educational programming to both indigenous and international populations is an asset.
  • Must be able to be on your feet 6 hours a day and ability to lift 25 kg with good manual dexterity.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with additional certifications related to this trade; evidence of on-going upgrading; knowledge of the BC Apprenticeship system, and evidence of leading people towards a common goal in a diverse working environment.

    Preference may be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have completed the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program. Applicants should have a demonstrated history of ongoing professional development as both a tradesperson and as an instructor. Applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to creativity, innovation and/or the application of technology in the delivery of educational programs are preferred.
