Overview:
The main objective of the

Electrical Supervisor is to plan and execute all electrical and instrumentation work activities in the plant with limited interruption to the plant's production while ensuring safety, cost control and equipment longevity.


Responsibilities:


Overview:


  • Effectively supervise 10 electrical technicians
  • Coach and mentor electrical team to develop technician skills
  • Support plant maintenance requirements
  • Ensure the timely and effective completion of work tasks by direct reports and contractors
  • Ensure department safety compliance to Lafarge policies and legislated requirements
  • Participate in selected root cause analysis and champion appropriate actions
  • Support plant Key Performance Indicators
  • Flexible and teachable

Operational:


  • Plan, schedule and assign all electrical jobs or tasks ensuring the availability of tools, parts, supplies and equipment to their team while also coordinating with the other plant departments to ensure ongoing plant operation.
  • Maintain daily records of activities and compile relevant data as needed for reporting purposes.
  • Followup on the effectiveness of the work performed to ensure a quality standard and provide feedback and instruction when standards are not met.
  • Troubleshoot and solve equipment malfunctions
  • When required by management determine the feasibly of upgrades to existing equipment depending on budgetary allowances
  • Develop and implement process control strategies in cooperation with other departments and management.
  • Involvement in electrical and process control upgrades and enhancements and make recommendations for long term improvements to the plant.

Leadership:


  • Supervision of the Electrical System Technicians by providing technical support and assistance.
  • Communicate technical information of products and processes used to solve unique problems to the electrical team and other departments and management as required.
  • Provide and schedule formal training as required.
  • Provide safety practices leadership to the Electrical System Technicians insuring compliance with all Work Safe BC regulations.
  • The scheduling of the department employees and equity of distribution of overtime among those employees.

Administration:


  • Assist in the development of required stock, parts, supplies, materials and products as applicable.
  • Maintain working and historical files.
  • Represent the electrical and systems section in plant planning and problem solving meetings.
  • Develop control programs or modification to existing programs for all field programmable logic controllers (PLC's) and maintain all associated documentation.
  • Control the use and coordinate the work of outside services and contractors as pertains to their group.
  • Remain uptodate on new technologies and techniques in the field.

Safety leadership:


  • To provide safety leadership to the team.
  • Ensure communication of safety requirements as it relates to other plant departments.

Relationship with Other Jobs:


  • Technician hourly employees.
  • Outside Services / Contractors

Qualifications:

Education:


  • BC Certified Journeyman Electrician or Interprovincial Red Seal
  • Blue Seal designation (desirable)
  • Instrumentation Ticket and/or experience (desirable)
  • A diploma in Electrical Technology (desirable)

Experience:


  • Proven Supervisory skills ideally in a unionized environment.
  • Experience on the tools that has led to at least 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Troubleshooting experience analyzing and resolving electrical problems
  • Automation experience would be an asset
  • Exposure to a medium and high voltage environment
  • Experience working in mining, steel or similar industries is desirable
  • Recognition of the safety element of the job
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems and take on the challenge of making them work in the plant.
  • Strong technological skills with an understanding of computers (both mechanical and operating system) and process control systems with the ability to program the plant's control system.
  • Familiarity with industrial instrumentation and process gas analyzers
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, strong English skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong experience in understanding electrical and automation diagrams
