The Sunnybrook Research Institute, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking an applicant to fulfill a full-time position as Research Technician under the supervision of Dr.

Wilder Scott. The position will be available for a one-year contract with possibility for renewal.

Wilder Scott is a Scientist in the Holland Bone and Joint Program and division of Biological Sciences at Sunnybrook Research Institute.


About the lab:


The Scott laboratory is centered around the interrogation of the programs governing tendon and other musculoskeletal tissue development, regeneration and renewal, with the ultimate goal of improving the regenerative capacity of these structures.

To this end, the fate and function of adult connective tissue progenitor cells are analyzed _in vivo_ (genetically engineered animal models) and _in vitro_ (tissue and organoid culture systems) using molecular biology, lineage tracing/fate mapping, microscopy and omics techniques.


Key responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Process animal/human musculoskeletal tissue.
  • Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining
  • Light and confocal microscopy
  • Molecular biology techniques (RNA isolation, cloning, transfection)
  • Tissue dissociation
  • Tissue/organoid culture (primary mammalian cells)
  • Support the daytoday operations of the laboratory.
  • Assist the research team on daily lab tasks and follow guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • College Diploma or equivalent in Laboratory Science.
  • Must have familiarity with standard laboratory procedures (histology, immunochemistry, nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting)
  • Flow cytometry, IP/ChIP experience an asset
  • Must be able to work in a fastpaced and constantly changing environment.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact with staff in a clear, cordial, and professional manner.
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize effectively.
  • Must have the capacity to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must be willing and able to rapidly learn new things.
  • Willingness to undertake animal work an asset.
  • Bioinformatics experience an asset.
  • Work outside of office hours will be occasionally required.
