Production Lead Hand - Burlington, Canada - Salit Steel

Position Summary
Reporting to the Production Supervisor/Superintendent, the Production Lead Hand is responsible for organizing and delegating shop floor activities on a daily basis.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for ensuring proper health & safety procedures are followed
- Provide instruction and training to production workers on how to properly operate the various shop machines in accordance with Salit SOP's
- Coordinate the production and shipping priorities for their shift
- Operates machinery, equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure machine guards are in place and material is handled in a safe manner. Must wear appropriate safety equipment as specified.
- Operation of Overhead Cranes (Training certification required prior to operating)
- Use of a measuring tape to check material lengths
- Follow work instructions, procedures and adhere to Company policies and rules
- Report any unsafe acts or conditions of which you are aware
- Maintaining regular attendance, arriving for scheduled shift ontime
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Adhere to the requirements of section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a nonclimate controlled environment. Temperatures will fluctuate in accordance with the weather and the season. Employees are to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
- Continuous walking, standing
- Occasional heavy lifting
- Employees are to use two man lift techniques or other lifting devices for loads that exceed their ability to lift safely (eg. Overhead Crane)
- Working in the yards and shops with the steel is dirty, wear suitable clothing.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work on your feet repetitive standing / walking
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Must wear hard hat, safety Glasses, earplugs, gloves, safety boots

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or construction environment years)
- Grade 12 diploma
- Previous overhead crane or fork truck operating experience is an asset.
- Experience leading/supervising others
