Position Summary


Reporting to the Production Supervisor/Superintendent, the Production Lead Hand is responsible for organizing and delegating shop floor activities on a daily basis.


Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring proper health & safety procedures are followed
  • Provide instruction and training to production workers on how to properly operate the various shop machines in accordance with Salit SOP's
  • Coordinate the production and shipping priorities for their shift
  • Operates machinery, equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure machine guards are in place and material is handled in a safe manner. Must wear appropriate safety equipment as specified.
  • Operation of Overhead Cranes (Training certification required prior to operating)
  • Use of a measuring tape to check material lengths
  • Follow work instructions, procedures and adhere to Company policies and rules
  • Report any unsafe acts or conditions of which you are aware
  • Maintaining regular attendance, arriving for scheduled shift ontime
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Adhere to the requirements of section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a nonclimate controlled environment. Temperatures will fluctuate in accordance with the weather and the season. Employees are to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
  • Continuous walking, standing


  • Occasional heavy lifting

  • Employees are to use two man lift techniques or other lifting devices for loads that exceed their ability to lift safely (eg. Overhead Crane)
  • Working in the yards and shops with the steel is dirty, wear suitable clothing.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work on your feet repetitive standing / walking
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must wear hard hat, safety Glasses, earplugs, gloves, safety boots

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or construction environment years)
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Previous overhead crane or fork truck operating experience is an asset.
  • Experience leading/supervising others
