We are looking for an Intake Worker to join our Sources Legal Resource Centre. This individual
must have excellent communication skills, be a team player and passionate about social justice issues.

Our services include:

Poverty Law Advocacy:

Individuals can obtain advocacy services as it relates to income assistance, provincial disability benefits, federal income security programs including CPP disability benefits, tenancy, employment insurance, and debt matters.

Advocates can provide information, referrals, form completion, and preparation/representation for related hearings and tribunals.


Mental Health Consumer Advocacy:

Self identifying mental health consumers can obtain advocacy services as it relates to income assistance, provincial disability benefits, federal income security programs including CPP disability benefits, and tenancy matters.

Advocates can provide information, referrals, form completion, and preparation/representation for related hearings and tribunals.


Family Law Advocacy:
Individuals can obtain advocacy services as it pertains to their family law matter.

Advocates support individuals navigating the family justice system by providing information, referrals, assistance with court forms and court preparation for Provincial and Supreme Court matters.

Sources Community Law Clinic offers free legal services to low income and marginalized individuals.

The Clinic provides legal advice, advocacy, and representation on matters that are adjudicated by various administrative tribunals including:

Residential Tenancy Branch, Human Rights Tribunal, WorkSafe BC, Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal, Income Assistance Appeals and Social Assistance Appeals (both provincial and federal), and the Civil Resolution Tribunal.

The Law Clinic also provides representation to individuals appearing in Supreme Court for Judicial Review.

Description of position

Reporting to the Advocacy Programs Manager, the Intake Worker of Newton Resource Center is a permanent employee of Sources Community Resources.

This position is responsible for handling incoming calls and requests for service to the program. The person completes the initiate intake process by completing required forms and determines level of urgency. They provide appropriate information, support and external or internal referrals. They maintain client resources, client database and agency communications.

In addition, the Intake Worker manages all front-end services including opening and closing; incoming, pick up and outgoing mail; security related issues, scheduling front desk coverage, training of students and volunteers on front desk services and other related duties.

They provide client support on services for advocacy and accessing income support services. They provide general clerical support - Data entry and maintenance of evaluation, statistical and databases. The Intake Worker produces statistical reports, general verbal and written communication.
The Intake Worker completes other related duties as required.


General Responsibilities:


  • Answer incoming calls and requests for service from the public. Complete intake screening to determine eligibility to programs and services.
  • Provide appropriate information, support and internal/external referrals.
  • Manage all frontend services including opening and closing; pick up mail; security related issues; scheduling front desk coverage; training of students and volunteers on front desk services and other related duties.
  • Provide administrative support by maintaining a database, distributing client surveys, and other related duties as required.
