Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, Student Life and Learning (SLL) and with a dotted line to the Director, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), the Communications Advisor, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion develops and executes communications plans, strategies, tactics and materials in support of the University's commitments under McGill's Strategic Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communications strategies and initiatives targeting the McGill community to support the EDI strategic directions of the University.
- Provide support in the development, creation, and placement of web content. Write and edit content in collaboration with SLL and EDI leadership and maintain a content/editorial calendar.
- Prepares and supports the development of all materials related to internal and external institutional EDI reporting requirements (Senate, Board, and its relevant committees).
- Coach, orient, and supervise various stakeholders (students, volunteers, staff, etc.) to assist with message delivery during awareness campaigns, activities, events, or commemorations.
- Liaise and collaborate with internal and external communications partners including the Communications and External Relations team, the Office of the Associate Provost, service providers (translation, photographers, videographers, graphic designers), etc.
- Act as a liaison between EDI and other administrative or academic offices or units of the university to strengthen relationships, ensure messages are accurate and harmonized, and avoid duplication.
- Establish and implement metrics to measure the success of communications strategies and tactics. Analyze trends and results, identify best communications practices, and provide appropriate recommendations.
- Undertake other tasks as required and assigned by the supervisor.
- Superior writing and editing skills (bilingual preferred), with the ability to easily and readily adapt the tone to a given audience.
- Demonstrated strong organizational, timemanagement, and projectmanagement skills, with a track record for meeting tight deadlines, providing proactive responses, and keen attention to detail.
- Ability to develop and implement communications plans and initiatives targeting internal and external audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and within a team; patience, good judgment, diplomacy, and political tact.
- Proven experience working with clients to assess and meet their communication needs.
- Knowledge of EDI concepts and deep understanding of the challenges faced by equityseeking groups (postsecondary context an asset).
Other desired assets:
- Web Content Management System experience.
- Experience in communications in EDI.
- Experience working in the higher education sector.
- Specialized training and experience in antioppression, antiracism, confronting antiBlack racism, discrimination, and decolonizing practices.
The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 0-4.
