We are currently seeking a full time Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team based out of our Milton, Ontario location.

Description of Role:

Quality checks on incoming products as well as inventoried products against product specifications to ensure that our customers receive the best product possible
This is a vital position and is a direct line to the customer, who relies on Fresh Start to be an industry leader in low cost, innovative, best quality produce

Duties and Responsibilities:
To do quality control checks on incoming products which will include the following:

Visual checks
Pulp Temperature tests
Download TempTale information
Product specification checks to ensure product meets customers expectations
Weight checks
Perform product specific tests. For example pressure tests on apples and Brix tests as required etc.
Incoming inspection of product to insure company standards are met
Rolling of product where necessary
Quantity and weight inspection where required
Cycle counts, work closely with inventory control person
Ensure that food safety guidelines are upheld and followed and documented. For example Cleanliness of inbound trucks and security seals on inbound loads etc.
Upkeep and recording of required information in log books as requested to be upheld in audit situations.
Ensure proper storage of product containing allergens
Example peeled potatoes, dairy etc.
Report quality issues to buyer(s) to ensure supplier notification
To work with branch locations with quality issues as required and communicate up to date requirements to ensure audit compliance.
Daily checks of all products to ensure they meet customer requirements
Daily checks of all dated products to ensure proper rotation and maximum shelf life
Responsible for mock recalls on bulk products and work with value added QA to ensure they are documented.
All other tasks surrounding Quality Control as assigned.
Working Saturdays dispatching, and handling drivers and second runs
Review and monitor food traceability and recall program in conjunction with Quality Assurance Manager

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Working experience at a company with a QA program within the food industry
Food related background will be an asset
Will have the ability to work as a team member and have good organizational skills and the ability to work and communicate with staff at all levels
Experience and ability to maintain and assist in QA training programs or presentations to be delivered on behalf of Fresh Start Foods (internal or external as required)
Travel may be required to assist in auditing and compliance issues (suppliers, growers, other sub contracted manufacturers)
Experience with internal (quality standards / product specs) and external audits (government and customer)
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
Strong attention to detail
Able to handle multiple tasks / projects within short timeframes
Able to balance the role of cop and coach (when interacting with employees and management regarding the quality processes at Fresh Start Foods)
