MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Loading System


1) Ensures correct and quality materials are used and supplies, when necessary, the following (share duties with helper); Master Batch and Crystal and Regrind.

Ensures K-resin is not used in producing creamers.

2) Starts up and shuts down loading system, empties when required and monitors during shift.

Extruder

3) Starts up and shuts down the extruder, according to procedures.

4) Checks and ensures that the extrusion heats and speeds are "set" and "reading" per the log.

5) Monitors heat and cooling on extruder, during the shift.

6) Changes screens, when required.

7) Cleans and changes extruder vent.

8) Purges extruder, when required.

9) Records any deviation from standard setting.

Rolls

10) Starts and stops polishing rolls, in conjunction with extruders.

11) Threads sheet on rolls for start up.

12) Cleans rolls, when required, using the Lock Out Procedure.

13) Unwraps sheet on rolls per procedure (jam up).

14) Starts roll temperature controls.

Former

15)

Starts up the former during the following:
start chains, vacuum pump, hydraulics, mold cooling system. Checks and fills grease lubrication and oil mist.

16) Turns on hydraulics, vacuum pump and oven heats.

17) Feeds sheet through former and cycle former.

18) Turns on blow form air.

19) Checks forming quality.

20) Monitors former controls.

Trim Press

22) Starts and stops trim press.

23) Starts web grinder, feeds sheet and starts static eliminator.

24) Sets trim press speed in synchronization with former.

25) Clears jam ups in trim press when they occur.

26) Cleans oven after a jam-up.


Quality
27) Scans the sheet from the chrome rolls to the forming station for marks, calendaring, contamination, die line etc. or for any possible quality problems that might affect the finished product as required in QA /86 and QA

28) Takes a full frame of cups and checks for any visual defects that can affect product quality.

29) Before feeding trim press, saves a complete frame for QA.
30) Inspects the product for the following dimensional characteristics, as set up in the QA software, and enters the data as specified by computer system set up; weight, sidewall thickness, bottom thickness, lip thickness, off centre, cup count. Monitors SPC charts and makes adjustments to the process, if necessary.

31) Ensures the correct packaging of the product. Ensures that Packers do not pack defective product, per the Non-conforming procedure.

32) Informs the Supervisor and QA if any defect is noticed.

Reports

33) Fills out the following reports; Downtime report - when line stops/or starts and end of shift; Stock Movement Log end of shift, S.P.C. Charts and enters quantity and hours into the shop floor computer system. Reports any material usage (flake, repel, regrind, crystal).

34) Fills out start-up and shut down checklists.


Adjustment
35) Makes the following adjustments when required; sheet width, die lip, oven heats, sheet thickness, line speed and sheet drag.

Cooling System

36) Starts chiller, temperature, controller and monitors all during shift.

Job Change

37) Sets up workstation, packaging, platforms etc.

Miscellaneous

38) Relieves Helper during breaks and when not on the line including using overhead crane to move finished rolls to pallet at line 6.

39) Assists other operators, when required.

40) In event of a fire follows proper procedures.

Communication

41)

Informs Supervisor on the following:
quality, quantity, breakdowns, safety, material, change in equipment and process.

42) Communicates with Helpers and Select Packers.


Housekeeping
43) Maintains a clean and organized work area and reports any deficiencies to the Supervisor.

Health and Safety

44) Adheres to the Safety Rules, Regulations and Programs of the Company and Government Legislation so that a safe environment is maintained.

45) Reports all accidents, unsafe conditions or near misses to the Supervisor.

In the incumbent's absence these responsibilities will be transferred to another Forming Line Operator.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to work 12 hour shifts

Must have basic math and computer skills

Must have experience in mechanical troubleshooting

Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis

Must be able to distinguish colour


Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.

Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with co-workers and others within the organization.

Must be self-motivated


EXPERIENCE:

6 Months


EDUCATION:

Grade 12 or equivalent


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The Forming Line Operator spends his/her time in a production environment. The production floor includes exposure to noise, temperature fluctuations and risk of injury from working around moving equipment.
