Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a full-time continuing Wellness & Benefits Associate to join our Human Resources Department.

As a Wellness & Benefits Associate, you will support the MacEwan Benefits and Pension programs, which include sick leave, short and long-term disability, health and dental, life insurance, accident and disability insurance, worker's compensation (WCB), and employee family and assistance.

This will include responding to employee requests for information, creating and maintaining program documents, advising on retirement/optional service requests, liaising with insurers on disability claims, and managing parental leave.

You will also support and facilitate return-to-work meetings and accommodation requests.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing routine disability management and return to work files;
  • Supporting managers and employees in sensitive and confidential discussions regarding employees who are injured and ill to provide information and outline of available options sick leave, shortterm disability (STD), longterm disability (LTD) and WCB, as well as provide options to employees regarding leaves without pay including medical EI process;
  • Partnering with Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) to ensure complex sick leave, STD, LTD and WCB claims are managed effectively in the workplace, with ongoing communication, regular checkpoints, and support for employees, managers, and, as appropriate, the applicable union representative;
  • Liaising with benefits insurer and coordinating information with the insurer to the appropriate departments and managers, and the HRBP;
  • Utilizing tactful communication with respect to a highly confidential medical diagnosis that requires a sensitive and empathetic manner while still providing the applicable resources to the employees; and
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and evaluation of wellness and benefits promotion at MacEwan.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Knowledge of group benefits and pension and any related provincial and federal pension legislation/applicable standards and Income Tax Act provisions
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and problemsolving skills with a customer service focus
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Diplomatic and active listening skills
  • Ability to work with diverse client groups
  • Ability to work independently and as team player
  • High level of understanding of tact and sensitivity in dealing with difficult and highemotion situations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a diploma in Human Resources or Disability Management.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in administering benefit plans, pension, and disability benefits programs.
  • Benefit and/or Disability Management certification is an asset.
  • Project Management experience is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
