About the Position:

The Set-up Operator is responsible for ensuring that the machines work properly and efficiently by conducting set-up operations and maintenance effectively to deliver products of right quality and maximum quantity of orders.

They must be able to troubleshoot issues and pay close attention to detail for each machine; ensure that proper protocols on how equipment is setup, maintained, used, cleaned and turned-off are followed.


What you will do as a Set Up Operator:

  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation and regulations.
  • Collect all the necessary tools and accessories needed for the order.
  • Verifies and ensures that the proper films are on the machines as per the schedule and docket prior to setup.
  • Perform optimal setups to provide highest quality output while ensuring the maximum efficiencies of equipment.
  • Set up machine as per process control and fine tunes machine so it is running at maximum output without jeopardizing quality or output.
  • Checks all running machines for proper setups by controlling and adjusting machine settings.
  • Monitor lines to ensure packaging lines and equipment are functioning normally.
  • Perform quality inspection at the beginning of their shift, upon completion of setups and at various times throughout their shift.
  • Record deviations in communication books and statistical charts.
  • Responsible for performing recalibration to ensure that the seal heads are properly aligned to meet the product quality standard consistently.
  • Keep the production floor area and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Check quarantine daily to see if any rework needs to be done.
  • Works closely with the manager on further resource allocation and capacity planning.
  • Assists with training need analysis for Converting Operators.
  • Train and educate staff about machine safety, procedures, machine checklist, functions, quality expectations, etc.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Converting Supervisor or Converting Manager.

Requirements:


  • 35 years of proven experience as a Setup Operator or similar role in a flexographic converting environment including mastery of troubleshooting various types of machinery and tools.
  • Intermediate mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Takes initiative and has an inclination towards innovativeness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of flexible packaging and strong understanding of the production processes.
  • High School Diploma and a certificate or diploma in production management or a relevant field would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
  • Good understanding of GMP.
