Special Terms
The position includes one week vacation per section (6 weeks) and one week of Professional Development time per section (6 weeks).
Vacation and Professional Development will be scheduled in consultation with the Department Coordinator and in such a way that all duties can be performed without replacement or substitution.

Remote
The position is primarily in person, but there is flexibility for partial remote work.

What you'll do - The Learning Strategist is a faculty role providing primarily studentfacing learning strategies support programming to Capilano University students with the mandate to facilitate and enhance student academic performance, success, retention and well being.
- The Learning Strategist will also be qualified and experienced sufficiently to lead the development of content focused peer tutoring programs campus wide.
- In addition to working directly with students, the Learning Strategist collaborates with faculty to complement classroom and online instruction with learning support programming.
- As a key resource on the Student Success Team, the Learning Strategist is required to develop effective working relationships with Counselling, Indigenous, Accessibility and other Student Services.
What you'll bring
Qualifications
- Master's degree in education or a directly related field.
- Additional certification in Tutor Training, Teaching, the Provincial Instructors Diploma, or related area would be an asset.
- Teaching and curriculum development experience an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years direct experience in providing individual and group study strategies instruction to diverse adult learners in a post secondary setting (e.g., time management, note taking, exam preparation, textbook reading, and other study strategies concerns).
- Demonstrated experience supporting faculty and their students by developing, designing, and instructing course aligned inperson or remote classroombased learning strategies' workshops and asynchronous learning strategies resources.
- Experience in developing peertutoring programs and supervising peer leaders.
- Experience liaising and collaborating with service areas such as Accessibility, Athletics, Registration, Advising, and the Residence or department programs to develop projects that address specific learning needs.
- Oversee the design, content, and delivery of the Learning Support Services programs (e.g., academic standing), events (e.g., orientation) and the webpages including selfserve resources.
- Familiarity with social media and other communication means to publicize learning support programming to student users, programs, and support services.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, take initiative, be proactive, resourceful, creative and solutionoriented, committed to continuous improvement and professional development and possesses analytical reasoning, planning, project management, organizational and problemsolving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain respectful collegial, consultative and collaborative relationships across the university.
- Ability to offer direction setting visàvis comprehensive learning strategies and peer tutoring programming.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse population
- Comfortable using electronic scheduling and record keeping software of student interactions.
- Ability to respond and deal effectively with change and crisis situations.
