This initiative is in support of Yukon government's goal for a representative public service. This posting is to fill 2 term positions working 75 hours bi-weekly to May 2026 with an anticipatory permanent. Temporary assignments may be considered.

Highways and Public Works – who we are

Employees at Highways and Public Works are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient public highways, airstrips, buildings, and information systems.

Our priorities are to be client focused, to support our people, to build sustainably, and to advance reconciliation throughout the Yukon.

We work closely together to support our Minister in the Legislative Assembly, develop policy and change or rewrite legislation.

In this role, you'll manage large complex policy initiatives and support the team in providing "fearless policy advice and faithful implementation." The policy analyst position reports to the Policy Manager and is responsible for developing and implementing policy options as well as leading and managing policy development projects through the approvals process.

The position also has the opportunity to lead or participate in inter-departmental committees in areas of interest to the department, which can provide various networking opportunities.

The position is also exposed to the day-to day workings of Yukon government while supporting the Minister and senior management in the department.

Our policy analysts are strategic individuals with critical thinking skills who can analyze a broad variety of policy projects and make well-thought-out recommendations.

The selected candidate will provide recommendations on complex issues, draft decision-making documents and develop policy in a collaborative setting.
A post-secondary degree in public policy, public administration, political science, social sciences or a related field;
Experience researching, analyzing, developing and evaluating policy options, ideally within a government context;
Experience providing advice and recommendations to senior management;
Experience planning, leading and/or facilitating large projects would be considered an asset;
Knowledge of Yukon government approvals processes would be considered an asset.
