    Job Summary:

    The Yukon Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA-YT), a non-profit, charitable organization is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) to lead the organizations overall mission and strategic plan.

    Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for all facets of the organization pertaining to leadership and management.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Leadership

    · Provide effective leadership for the direct oversight of programs and services.

    · Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization's activities.

    · Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the ED and between the ED and staff.

    · Act as a spokesperson for the organization.

    · Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the organization, when appropriate.

    · Represent the organization at community events to enhance the organization's community profile.

    Governance and Strategic Planning

    · Provide professional advice to the Board of Directors to develop and implement the Strategic and Operational plans, policies, and procedures.

    · Work closely with the National organization to implement shared goals and to build and strengthen the CMHA-YT's capacity to respond to community need and promote mental health for all.

    · Meet regularly with CMHA-YT Board of Directors and provide operational reports including financial, human resources and regional updates as well as presenting proposals and plans for Board review, discussion, and approval.

    Relationships and Outreach

    · Maintain key relationships with existing funding partners, develop new relationships for CMHA-YT and assist in identifying alternative funding opportunities.

    · Establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborative arrangements with Indigenous communities and leaders, funders, politicians, community groups and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.

    · Work to increase opportunities for CMHA-YT to effectively meet the needs of all people of the Yukon.

    · Maintain ongoing relationships with stakeholders and communicate effectively to understand and implement community needs, to keep them informed of the work of the organization and identify changes in the community served by the organization.

    Operational Planning and Management

    · Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization and to ensure proper administration of all record keeping, including those relating to client files, programs, finances, budget, and operational areas.

    · Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs and services and ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization meet current community needs while contributing to the organization's mission/vision statement and reflecting the priorities of the Board.

    · Ensure that the operation of the organization fulfills the objectives of the funding agreements, and the expectations of the Board.

    · Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies.

    · Ensure all policies and administrative procedures are in place to support all programs.

    · Recommend to the Board changes to policies as appropriate.

    · Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agendas, supporting materials, adhering and reporting to Corporate Services as per the Societies Act.

    Human Resources Planning and Management

    · Ensure adherence to all legislation related to health and safety, labor, and human rights codes.

    · Ensure succession planning for key positions within the organization.

    · Provide direct supervision of the work of the Counselling team, Reach Out Support Line employees and volunteers and all other staff. This will also occasionally entail contractor oversight and the supervision of positions that may not be listed here, pending future development of the organization.

    · Ensure adherence to standards related to the participation of volunteers in the organization.

    · Ensure job descriptions are current and that regular performance reviews occur for all staff, ensure fair and transparent hiring practices.

    Financial Planning and Management

    · Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization as well as to prepare and monitor a comprehensive budget under the oversight of the Board Finance Committee.

    · Develop and write grant proposals and persuasively communicate the organization's mission and programs to potential funders.

    · Oversee all fund development activities.

    · Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization.

    · Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate.

    · Maintain reporting requirements for payroll, charitable status, funding agreements and other fiduciary responsibilities.

    Risk Management

    · Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's people (staff, clients, management, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image, and implement measures to manage risks.

    · Ensure that the Board of Directors and the organization carry appropriate and adequate insurance coverage.

    Skills and Abilities

    · Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/volunteer organizations.

    · Knowledge of federal and territorial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, and health coverage.

    · Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities related to the mission of the organization.

    · Knowledge of human resources, finance, and project management.

    · Willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

    · Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with the vision, mission, and values of CMHA-YT.

    · Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively present information to a variety of audiences.

    · Excellent interpersonal skills and a builder of effective working relationships.

    · Proven analytical and problem-solving skills and creativity in formulating solutions.

    · Fundraising knowledge and ability to formulate and implement broad strategic plans.

    · Ability to think "outside the box" and creatively about new opportunities.

    · Demonstrates teamwork, leadership, managerial, and administrative skills.

    · Client-centered decision-making which embraces the diversity of CMHA-YT clients.

    · Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting objectives and effectively delegate.

    · Strategic thinking with the ability to conceptualize the business requirements of the organization.

    · Politically astute; able to recognize "hot" issues and deal with them effectively.

    · Possesses a thorough knowledge of and commitment to the values of non-for-profit organizations in general and values the involvement of volunteer leadership.

    · Working knowledge of financial control systems and procedures.

    Qualifications

    · University degree in social sciences, health or a related field or the equivalent.

    · Several years of managerial, supervisory, and financial control experience in the community social services sector. Non-profit organization experience is considered an asset.

    · Demonstrated and in-depth working knowledge of community-based programs and services, funding sources, community relations and Board relations.

    · An understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery from mental illness.

    · Experience in the mental health field, responding to individuals and families who face mental illness, addictions, or homelessness.

    Working Conditions

    This is a management position and is not subject to regular overtime policies.

    This is offered as a full-time term position for a 1-year period. Conditions of continued employment will be subject to a Board review before the completion of the term.

    The annual salary range for this position is $96,000 - $114,000.
