The Manager, Financial Accounting - Fixed Assets is responsible for the month-end general ledger (G/L) reporting process and fixed asset sub-ledger, including the implementation and maintenance of related accounting policies and codification by which the database of accounting information is maintained and summarized for reporting purposes.


Responsibilities:

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Financial Accounting - Fixed Assets.

  • Interprets, monitors and implements all established fixed asset financial accounting policies throughout the Corporation.
  • Ensures national consistency in fixed asset accounting and reporting by providing financial accounting direction to those involved in corporate and field accounting.
  • Establishes and documents information requirements of corporate management for financial accounting data related to fixed assets. Defines requirements and develops and implements financial accounting systems.
  • Functionally manages the timely production of monthly financial reporting required by and for operating management at all levels; initiates and approves change requests in response to special requests or required report changes.
  • Ensures consistent and reliable fixed asset accounting and sound business discipline by developing and implementing database coding standards and data integrity controls. Manages and approves all related database amendments, certifies records and ensures the integrity and timeliness of all data recorded on general ledger or fixed asset subledger and follows up correction of all invalid coding by responsible departments.

Job Responsibilities (continued):


  • Establishes, manages and maintains the responsibility for accounting coding disciplines in support of the financial chart of accounts, including accounts, asset class, responsibility center activity and project codes.
  • Monitors corporate performance relative to all aspects of fixed asset accounting, identifies irregularities and takes remedial action as appropriate.
  • Develops and publishes instructions, forms, reports and schedules which inform and educate management and staff nationally in the use and understanding of financial accounting disciplines.
  • Understands, interpret and applies the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to all fixed asset transactions.
  • Manages the team in a manner that demonstrates corporate values and leadership behaviors. Provides coaching and development opportunities to team members in order to facilitate continued growth and professional development.

Qualifications:


Education
Completed post-secondary education in a related field (commerce, finance, economics, accounting, business administration).

Enrollment in specific designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions in Finance (including Accounting and Payroll).


Experience
3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience.
2 or more years' experience in a supervisory role.

  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs and other job relevant programs.
  • Excellent team building and leadership skills experience.
  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgment and decisionmaking skills with proven abilities in problem solving.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • 1+ years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.
