The Control System Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.


Core Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of systems development activities related to the applicable system with a strong focus on diagnostics
  • Ensure outsourced engineering is compliant with government regulations, system safety and GM best practices
  • Provide diagnostic oversight and act as primary point of contact for concerns and questions related to an outsourced system/component(s)
  • Participate in the sourcing process for new active safety systems, including assessing supplier's diagnostic strategies
  • System Technical Specification development along with FMEA analysis will be fundamental aspects of the position
  • Implement new feature and functions related to the applicable subsystem
  • Create system interface drawings with assistance from architecture team
  • Create and maintain applicable system/subsystem/component software specifications in IBM DOORS or DOORS Next Generation, JAMA
  • Lead/participate in software peer reviews to ensure compliance to requirements
  • Model interface definition requirements that impacts serial data, diagnostics and service using IBM Rational Rhapsody
  • Work with the architecture team on functional subsystem allocation, signal connectivity, and controller deployment
  • Root cause all applicable subsystem related issues
  • Communicates information to both internal and external customers
  • Ensure deliverables are complete as per milestones with excellence
  • Responsible for compliance with GM processes and safety procedures

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3 or more years' experience with automotive or similar electronic modules and/or systems experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces
  • Demonstrated experience working with real time operating systems
  • Experience with embedded control systems, software development and system integration
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Demonstrated ability to solve unusual and difficult problems
  • Strong technical leadership skills and an ability towork in a highly collaborative environment and global team
  • Cumulative travel requirements of 2 to 6 weeks a year are typical, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Additional Job Description

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 2+ year of experience developing hardware and/or software diagnostics
  • Ability to read/understand source code (C/C++) and Simulink models
  • Experience with Rational Rhapsody or equivalent system modeling tool
  • Experience with Eclipse and Gerrit code tool or equivalent
  • Experience with ADAS components/sensors (cameras, radars, lidars, etc.)
  • General knowledge of automotive systems (Active Safety, Powertrain, Chassis, and/or CAN/LIN communication)
  • Knowledge of OBDII Regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 and/or other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, DO178, DO254 or ARP475
  • Experience in performing system and component level DFMEAs
  • Experience in automotive product release and specification process
