Are you a financial analytics expert with the experience and motivation to lead the City's Cash Control team through continuous improvement of processes and technology? If so, the role of Supervisor, Cash Control might be for you


The Supervisor performs audits of cash reports to identify areas of concern; works with business areas to identify new requirements, changes to policy, procedure and guidelines; and works with general ledger accounts associated with Cash Control.

The Supervisor is also responsible for developing internal controls, data analysis and reporting, as well providing oversight and governance to all functions within Cash Control.

  • Supervise day-to-day decisions for all assigned functions and activities of team members, review and re-allocate workload
  • Complete staff performance reviews, have regular checkins or oneonones with staff, and provide feedback and coaching
  • Analyze and audit data for preparation of statistical reports for Manager, Cash Operations & BTA and Director, Financial Operations
  • Monitor monthly processes for fluctuations, changes and trends
  • Provide a supportive and collaborative environment for employees, where differing opinions are listened to and valued, conflict is resolved in a respectful manner, and everyone is treated fairly & equally
  • Research and identify industry best practices and assess approaches in other municipalities regarding Cash Operations to present information to team members, Manager of Cash Operations and Director of Financial Operations
  • Analyze trends in municipal government and local issues in order to communicate process improvement opportunities to the Manager of Cash Operations and Bylaw Ticket Administration and Director of Financial Operations
  • Represent Cash Control in meetings with business areas and internal or external partners to ensure business requirements are met
  • Provide technical and professional advice and assistance to business area supervisors and managers to ensure that sites are following corporate cash handling procedures
  • Conduct special projects, working with various departments as required
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelors or Applied degree in business administration or accounting related degree
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible related accounting experience working with cash control and remittance processing is required
  • Minimum one (1) year experience supervising staff is required
  • Financial, Auditing Controls and data analytics experience with the ability to prepare a variety of complex and diverse financial reports
  • High level of analytical and conceptual skills to identify and resolve complex financial problems
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and effective communication (verbal and in writing) are expected in order to resolve operational and business issues. Business process improvement experience and knowledge of methodologies is considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Excel, Google Suite, SAP, RAMS, and iNovah cashier software
  • Thorough understanding of cash handling procedures
  • Knowledge of corporate and departmental policy & procedures
  • Compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and CPA Canada Handbook CICA recommendations and Public Sector Accounting Standards recommendations
  • Thorough knowledge of the corporate financial system and its interrelationship to departmental accounting operations
  • As a team leader — must have the ability to plan, coordinate and direct subordinates for the completion of assigned functions
  • Significant supervisory experience and training
  • Excellent customer service while ensuring adherence to professional standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate and foster working relationships with all levels of management and nonmanagement personnel
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
