Job Summary:
As an integral member of the Payroll Team, the Payroll Coordinator ensures the timely and accurate processing, and reconciliation of a unionized payroll.
This position will be responsible for the administration of employee pay and benefits in SAP throughout the lifecycle of the employee and provide employee support for inquiries regarding pay.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Validate information received from multiple sources that will impact the calculation and processing of employee compensation and benefits, and make any necessary adjustments.
- Verify for accuracy, prepare and input data into the payroll system for employee groups paid by salary and hourly.
- Input permanent changes to employee payroll records maintained in the payroll system relating to new hires, terminations, retirements and leaves and the set up and changes to the statutory deductions, pensions and other mandatory and benefit plans.
- Calculate and input any manual adjustments to earnings and all legislated, mandated and optional benefits and deduction plans as required.
- Ensure compliance with collective agreements.
- Responsible for generating biweekly pay including balancing and reconciliation of pay.
- Respond to payroll questions and inquiries from staff and management in a timely manner, that adheres to privacy requirements.
- Provide support for the time tracking system.
- Maintains up to date documentation on payroll process and procedures. Makes recommendations to update processes or controls as necessary.
- Responsible for various activities to support the year end process and reporting.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll procedures and processes.
- Three or more years related work experience in a high volume, fast paced payroll department, preferably with a medium to large public sector organization.
- Proficient in Excel and functions used to compare, analyze and manage data within spreadsheets (e.g. lookups and pivot tables).
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, including excellent attention to detail.
- Effective customer service and collaborative skills are required, including the ability to work successfully in a team environment and independently as well as ensuring deadlines are maintained and achieved.
Preferred
- Postsecondary diploma in Business Administration and completion of PCP designation.
- Experience with SAP HR and Payroll.
