ACCOUNTABILITY & OBJECTIVE:


Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Manager is responsible for performing personal care tasks in an efficient and cooperative manner for the residents, with due consideration for their needs and preferences, ensuring adherence to the principles of choice, independence, individuality, respect, dignity, and a homelike environment.


BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be a graduate from a recognized Health Care Aide program; students currently enrolled in a nursing program.
  • 1year previous caregiving experience
  • Medication Administration Certificate
  • Basic First aide and CPR Certificate
  • WHIMIS
  • COVID 19 proof of vaccine (minimum of 2 doses)
  • Proof of BC Health Care Certification (Registry #)
  • Level 1 First Aid, CPR / AED Certificate
  • Current TB Screen and Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be able to speak and write in English. Other languages will be an asset.
  • Interacts with others in an effective, compassionate, empathetic, and supportive manner. Ability to develop cordial relations with team members, residents, and families
  • Respects each resident as an individual and is aware of their need for selfrespect and privacy, and the right to share in decisions about their care
  • Keen observation, decision making and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrates ability to organize workload and adapt to unexpected tasks and situations, and work independently or with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to use related technology and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Performs duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility, those functions which provide for the personal service residents.
  • Assists in observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition.
  • Participates in the overall activation process developed by the residence to promote the wellbeing of each resident (physical, spiritual, social, and emotional).
  • Performs personal assistance to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with the standards of the residence.
  • Maintains effective oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families, and staff, using appropriate lines of communication.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel.
  • Aware of inservice education opportunities within the residence and seeks out those that will improve their personal level of practice to keep informed of current trends.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • Participates in the Residence's ongoing Fire Prevention, Pest control, Continuous Quality Improvement, Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control programs as required.
  • Handles all matters in a confidential manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned with an exemplary standard of skill and sense of responsibility
  • Function within the limits of your own experience and knowledge, while practicing safely and competently within the job description.
