- Canadian Citizen or legal entitlement to work in Canada
- High school Grade 12 graduation with transcript
- Recognized Fire Responder Certificate
- Possess a valid Class 3 Drivers License with an acceptable driver's abstract - personal driving record* (*applicants cannot have more than six (6) points in one year or nine (9) points within five (5) years. They cannot have any alcohol-related offenses - i.e. impaired driving or 215 suspensions and cannot have any suspensions caused by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles)
- NFPA 1001 Level 1 and Level II, OR POC member of MFRS, OR successful completion of one (1) year in a career fire department
- 2+ years of full-time employment after high school or equivalent number of hours
- No conviction of a criminal offense related to the job duties of a firefighter (a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector check will be required)
- Physically and psychologically suitable for the position of a firefighter (meets NFPA 1582)
- Degree or Red Seal Diploma or 30 credits of post-secondary education
- Minimum of two (2) years in apprenticeship (transcripts required)
- Previous experience in Emergency or Military service
- Additional certification in fire courses such as technical rescue (rope, confined space, swift water, etc.) and Fire Service Instructor (FSI)
- Possession of higher-level first responder courses (EMR, PCP)
- Proficiency in swimming with certifications such as Bronze Cross, Medallion, and National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
- SCUBA certification is an asset
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset
- Experience giving back to the community by volunteering and community activities
- Successful candidates will be required to live within the lower mainland (between Chilliwack and Lions Bay)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Guided by the Department's emphasis on service, diversity, honour, respect, and teamwork, the Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue Service provides support to the residents, communities, and businesses of one of Canada's fastest-growing cities. We are looking for resilient, adaptable, committed candidates who have goals and values that are aligned with those of the Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue Service, to provide the best emergency response and fire prevention initiatives possible. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are highly motivated and seeking a lifelong challenging and rewarding career as a firefighter.
Successful candidates will be required to perform a variety of job functions including, fire suppression activities, assisting at medical incidents, fire inspections, fire prevention education, community initiatives, working with other city staff and other related duties as required.
To successfully serve the community and perform their job, firefighters are required to maintain a high level of physical fitness, and mental resilience and must maintain overall health. Firefighters actively participate in the delivery of training and sharing of knowledge with other Fire Department personnel. Although assignments and responsibilities are generally performed under supervision, firefighters may be required to make decisions and work without supervision until a fire officer arrives on scene. Overall performance is subject to review, inspection, and evaluation by a senior officer of the department.

Two hour days followed by Two hours night shifts
Note: The City of Maple Ridge and IAFF Local 4449 have recently agreed to a framework to explore the implementation of a comprehensive three (3) year 24-Hour Shift Pilot Program
