We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Specialist at our Surrey facility.


The Health and Safety Specialist develops, administers, and implements companywide occupational safety programs, and serves as the specialist for the occupational safety programs within the Canadian region.


  • Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections and reporting.
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Liaise with WSIB/WCB on all claims, including managing appeals where appropriate
  • Effectively manage return to work programs, working closely with the employee, his/her supervisors and the WSIB to ensure the employee's safety and health
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and supervisors to return injured employees (as soon as possible) to productive work following an injury
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure the functionality of Joint Committees/Representatives, as required by legislation
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all DSV Solutions Inc. employees and subcontractors.
  • Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs for DSV Solutions Inc. supervisors and field employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
  • Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reports
  • Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
  • Design safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, provincial and local regulations.
  • Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
  • Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place.
  • Provide training to managers and others on occupational safety issues.
  • Ensure appropriate firstaid supplies are maintained and ordered, as required

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, MSDA) is considered a strong asset.
  • Three to five years' experience in occupational health and safety
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and workers' compensation legislation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and teamoriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
