June: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm; July & Aug: Monday-Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm with the potential of some evening and weekends


Job Summary:


Each Section Coordinator is responsible for the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities for a particular age group of campers: Kinder Camp (ages 4 & 5), Rabbit Rangers (ages 6 & 7), Eco Quest (ages 8-10), and Fox Bay (ages Each Coordinator develops innovative nature programming, plans and implements training sessions for volunteer counsellors and supervises them in the delivery of activities with the campers.


Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Create themebased recreational and educational day camp programs for schoolage children and youth
  • Oversee the implementation of all the camp activities while watching for the safety and wellbeing of all program participants
  • Plan and implement training sessions for volunteer counsellors
  • Supervise and guide volunteer counsellors
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of camp space and other camp facilities
  • Communicate with parents to assess the quality of their child's experience
  • Evaluate camp counsellors on their job performance
  • Prepare a final report at the end of camp
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Hiring Criteria:


  • University/college student working towards a degree/diploma in education, recreation, or other related field
  • Experience planning and implementing recreational/educational programs
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Extensive experience working with children in a camp, classroom or schoolage day care setting
  • A strong interest in working with children and in environmental education
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Initiative and proven problemsolving skills
  • Physically fit and ability to work outdoors for long periods of time
  • Valid Driver's License and access to transportation (Bus service is not available and FWA is approximately a 2030 min walk from bus stop)
  • Child abuse registry check and criminal records check required upon hiring

Assets:


  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture is an asset
  • CPR and Standard First Aid certification
  • Experience and/or certification in canoeing, kayaking, archery
  • National Lifeguard certification
