Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Senior Systems Administrator, in the School of Information Technology, the Digital Equipment Technician handles the distribution, setup, maintenance, proper handling, training, and repair and replacement of various specialized equipment within the school for its various programs and courses offered.

This is done primarily through the direct support of students, non-academic staff, and faculty in the following areas: equipment maintenance, repair, distribution, training, and support; supporting film and motion capture studio, including setting up video and visual effects production equipment, setting up and supporting motion capture sessions; supporting sound recording and video editing studio, including setting up and monitoring recording sessions, and the calibration of equipment; supporting the makerspace, including setup, maintenance, and training of the various equipment used; configuring and supporting the school's teaching stations multimedia equipment; and supporting the setup and configuration of special projects.

The incumbent's other duties include support for the school's programs, workshops, and other projects.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Familiarity with film studio equipment, including how to use, optimize performance, and configure for different scenarios.
  • Ability to instruct students and faculty in equipment usage, independently configure equipment, and efficiently tear down after use.
  • Proficiency in digital media production, digital file formats, and audio/video editing tools, particularly Adobe Suite, with familiarity with BlackMagic Resolve as a bonus.
  • Understanding of video program production techniques and studio operations.
  • Initiative to incorporate current and emerging technologies into program pedagogy.
  • Maintenance of good working relationships with computing and digital media staff, students, nonacademic staff, and faculty.
  • Physical capabilities to handle equipment weighing up to 30kg, work at heights up to 6m on ladders, deal with electrical equipment rated for up to 240v, and run cables with knowledge of safety concerns.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Graduation from a two-year Computer Systems Technology, Broadcast/Video Production, or Digital Media program from a recognized college; or similar. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Five years' experience in digital media production support, studio support, IT/digital media systems, working with digital media formats (graphics, audio, video, etc.), and supporting inexperienced computer users in a fastpaced environment.
