Duties and Responsibilities:


The Student Experience Office (SEO) facilitates student-centered learning that enhances the university experience by: offering transition support, leadership opportunities, and experiential learning programs.

The Student Engagement and Orientation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing initiatives that support students' transitions into the University and provide meaningful ways for students to engage in the community.

The incumbent is responsible for coordinating programs and initiatives that fall within the transition support and student engagement mandate of the Student Experience Office that enhance the co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences of all Carleton undergraduate students.

The incumbent develops, coordinates, and facilitates activities to engage and acclimate students to the University community.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Group leadership and supervisory skills are essential for this role.
  • Knowledge of student life and related issues is required.
  • Presentation experience and training experience are necessary.
  • Expertise in translating student development theory into practice is essential.
  • Proven experience in building relationships with partner organizations (such as campus departments and student associations) based on trust, respect, genuineness, and commitment is needed.
  • The role may require working various weekend and evening hours for orientation and student engagement programs.
  • Limited annual leave will be approved during peak planning and delivery times from March to October inclusive.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Four (4) years of post secondary education, preferably including a Master's degree in student affairs, education, or related field.
  • Three (3) years experience with program organization and development, staff and volunteer training and supervision, and experience working with student organizations as community partners.
  • Understanding of student transition and the importance of student engagement.
