Duties and Responsibilities

The Administration and Finance Department plays a crucial role by providing support and administrative, accounting, and financial services to all staff, while also contributing to the achievement of the Museum's overall objectives and mandate.

The Accounting Service oversees all activities through effective financial planning and transparent accounting.

The team, consisting of three individuals, is responsible for managing accounts receivable and payable, payroll management, month-end tasks, project and fund analysis.


Operating budget:
$10M+.


Under the supervision of the Chief Accountant, the incumbent contributes to the sound daily management of various accounting activities at the McCord Stewart Museum and the McCord Museum Foundation.


Main Tasks

  • Record daily accounting entries (payables);
  • Manage the complete accounts payable cycle (entering invoices, expense reporting, preparing payments, etc.);
  • Prepare cash deposits for receipts on a weekly basis and deposit them at the bank;
  • Prepare tax receipts for inkind donations and T4A forms;
  • Maintain office stationery and supplies inventories and process orders accordingly;
  • Log and monitor maintenance requests for all office equipment (cartridges and time stamp);
  • File all accounting forms;
  • Perform other administrative and accounting tasks.

Qualifications and Profile Required

  • College diploma in accounting or a related field;
  • Two years (2) of relevant experience; all combinations of experience will be considered;
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and the Windows environment (MS Office [Intermediate Excel], Microsoft Dynamics GP);
  • Proficiency in French and good knowledge of English;
  • Rigor, ethics, honesty, and discretion (handling confidential information);
  • Organizational skills, sense of responsibility, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Strong team spirit, friendly attitude, and commitment to excellent customer service;
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients;
  • Interest in history and culture.
