THE OPPORTUNITY


Western Forest Products is hiring for a
Logistics Specialist to join our Supply Control and Logistics team based out of our head office in
Vancouver, BC.**
What You'll Do: With the overarching objective of Defining a Higher Standard, the Logistics Specialist ensures the timely and efficient delivery of products to market, working with the Sawmills and Sales & Marketing Department team.

    $55,000 $66,000 based on skill level, qualifications, and experience

Work Environment:
This role is to be performed in person at our head office in Vancouver, BC.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with transportation service providers, across multiple modes, to ensure delivery commitments are met to internal and external customers;
  • Coordinate transportation activities via truck, rail and export containers, including carrier selection;
  • Negotiate rates with logistics providers;
  • Evaluate and make best decisions to meet timelines and realize best transportation rates;
  • Work with 3rd party reloads to ensure shipments occur in a timely manner;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve logístical issues, such as delays, damage, and discrepancies;
  • Implement and enforce logistics policies, procedures and best practices;
  • Assist with border papers, delivery slips, transfers, receiving paperwork;
  • Assist with inventory management and control monitoring aged inventory;
  • Assist with export documentation;
  • Accounts Payable approval processing;
  • Perform other duties, projects, and assignments as needed;
  • Travel as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Some postsecondary accreditation preferred;
  • Post-Secondary degree in Logistics or related field considered an asset.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Excellent internal and external relationship building skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and react to changing conditions;
  • Ability to work independently as a selfstarter and under supervision;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work to timelines;
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented;
  • High level of integrity and accountability;
  • Ability to think critically;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills;
  • Transportation/Logistics experience; Truck, Rail and/or Marine;
  • LumberTrack knowledge is an asset;
  • Lumber shipping experience is an asset.
