The Intermediate Auditor is responsible for performing moderately complex internal audits as part of the internal audit plan including the development of scope, performing procedures, and preparation of reports.

The incumbent is guided by defined goals and procedures and works under the general supervision of the Manager, Audit Services.


What you'll be working on:


  • Perform internal audits determining objective and scope and financial control testing that includes assessing the design and operating effectiveness and raise identified issues to management for remediation
  • Ensure assigned testing and projects are complete in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and guidelines; according to the schedule using data analytics and automation
  • Identify opportunities to improve economy, efficiency and effectiveness of business processes and make recommendations to senior management
  • Collaborate with senior management in the followup of open and past due internal audit findings
  • Act as a second level reviewer and coach/mentor for junior or temporary employees
  • Facilitate educational and training courses to internal and external audiences
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Empire Life employees/management and external consultants
  • Conduct research to ensure Empire Life is current with emerging audit, internal control and risk themes
  • Attend, present and/or participate in continuing professional education classes and training courses
  • Ensures compliance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)

What you'll need to have:


  • Completion of a college/university degree with specialization in audit, financial and managerial accounting or a combination of education and work experience 3+ years work experience in auditing or a related field
  • Knowledge of internal control techniques and internal audit procedures
  • Knowledge of contract interpretation
  • CPA and/or CIA designation or in progress
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, and ability to present information clearly to a diverse audience
  • Ability to negotiate solutions
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
