Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Compliance, the Coordinator, Health, Safety and Compliance will assist with the coordination, development, administration, and maintenance of the Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) Health, Safety and Compliance program.

The Coordinator, Health, Safety and Compliance will facilitate, arrange, and track various health and safety training programs.

This position will also provide field health and safety and environment expertise, respond to incidents, assist with investigations, perform audits, and ensure success of the overall health and safety management system.

This position will be responsible for providing guidance and direction to contract services, oversee inspections and monitor compliance by Authorities (e.g. fire and alarm system verification, backflow preventers, lifting devices etc.).

The position will assist NPC with ensuring compliance with legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Ontario Fire Code, Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), and other applicable standards are met.

The position will, as required, support and provide leadership to departmental contacts to maintain compliance with their assigned provincially and organizationally mandated standards.


This position offers a salary of $71,106.90 to $84,979.54 as well as a defined benefit pension plan and comprehensive benefit plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • University/College education (minimum 2year College Diploma) in Health and Safety, Human Resources or equivalent education and experience.
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Environmental Protection Act and other applicable standards through formal education or experience.
  • CRSP, CRM or CRST is required.
  • Formal education in adult learning is considered an asset.
  • 35 years previous experience in Health and Safety is required.
  • Experience developing and facilitating adult education training is preferred.
  • Superior working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, the Ontario Building Code, Environmental Protection Act and AODA.
  • Experience in building, working with and leading crossfunctional teams. Experience in leading projects and change management. Developing policies, procedures, and communication tools Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite software.
  • Valid G driver's license required.
  • Experience in a supervisory or management role is an asset.
  • Position requires excellent interpersonal, negotiation and problemsolving skills with the ability to work, liaise and build partnerships with all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, including consultants, provincial and regulatory agencies, contractors, suppliers, the public, community organizations, and guests to Niagara Parks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Requires organizational, administrative, research, written communication, prioritization, project, and time management skills.
  • Ability to design and implement training programs. A selfstarter and ability to work with mínimal supervision. Ability to forecast, coordinate, and seek resolution to a variety of potentially unique problems and issues that contribute to the successful outcome of any given project.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive, direction and guidance related to technical equipment, fire and life safety legislation and health and safety legislation compliance.
  • Demonstrative collaborative and consultation skills, with the ability to lead or participate in projects and partnerships. Effective critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develops, coordinates, facilitates, tracks, and records training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to NPC related to the health and safety (with a focus on equipment safety and fire and life safety) to ensure compliance with legislation and Niagara Parks policy.
  • Provides onsite support for Niagara Parks related to incidents, investigations, hazard reports, environmental issues and health and safety testing.
  • Responds to issues related to Fire and Life safety systems including alarms, troubles and coordinates with third party contractor to correct deficiencies.
  • Supports the Joint Health and Safety Committees to ensure compliance and support the improvement of communication and participation.
  • Provides Subject Matter Expertise and acts as a resource on Health and Safety, Fire Code, and Environmental legislation for a diverse audience, including the Board of Commissioners, Senior Executive Team, management, employees, visitors and the general public.
