Overview:


Reporting to the plant Foreman, the Plant Operator - Lead Hand will oversee daily operations at the Mitchell Island Asphalt Plant.

Operations will include ensuring safe work is performed safely, regular maintenance is completed timely, building and maintaining a strong customer base and looking for opportunities improving the productivity and efficiency of operations.

The incumbent should be familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices and procedures of hot mix asphalt production and lay down.


Responsibilities:


Operations:


  • Under the Foreman, supervise and schedule a crew of 4
  • Communicate with customers, field crews, aggregate sales, quality control and vendors to facilitate a safe and efficient workspace
  • Complete regular maintenance as directed in a timely manner. Communicate plant issues to the Foreman and develop corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor subcontractor's performance and ensure compliance
  • Assist in planning for repairs / planned downtime
  • Maintain high quality customer service
  • Enforce organizational standards
  • Maintain records
  • Training
  • Coordinate with Quality Control Supervisor regarding mix designs, production requirements
  • Measuring and tracking inventories.

Health and Safety & Environment:


  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments. A steward for safety
  • Conduct daily, weekly and monthly safety meetings with and inspections with crews.
  • Ensure FLRA's and permits are reviewed for compliance. Communicate and document deficiencies and corrective actions.

Qualifications:
The incumbent will have sound knowledge of asphalt production and processes. They will be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of the equipment associated with asphalt plants. They will have a strong mechanical background and have experience with computers.


Education:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required Postsecondary degree, diploma, trade certificate, etc. preferred.
