    Job Summary
  • The International Student Engagement and Mobility Coordinator develops and implements strategic and innovative engagement, mobility and immigration support and activities for international students at Vancouver Community College (VCC). This position reports to the Manager, International Student Services, and to the Director, International Education on mobility related matters, and has direct managerial supervision of assigned support staff. This position is responsible for developing and monitoring international projects and mobility programs including study abroad, exchange programs, faculty/staff mobility, internationalization at home and other international partnerships and projects in order to progress the internationalization goals of the College. This position assists with VCC's strategic innovation priorities including participating in strategic planning and assisting with management of the overall fiscal operation of international programs and projects. This position liaises with internal and external stakeholders to design, deliver and monitor various international student engagement activities, workshops and other initiatives to support international student mobility, wellness and success As a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA), the incumbent advises international students on all matters related to their immigration status at VCC to ensure that they make informed decisions and are compliant with their study and work responsibilities.
    Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, coordinate and manage international mobility programs and projects including study abroad, exchanges and customized programs ensuring appropriate practices and policies are in place for students and faculty participating in the programs.
  • Provide guidance to students and faculty on VCC administrative policies and procedures related to study abroad programs and opportunities.
  • Develop marketing materials and implement strategies to raise awareness of study abroad opportunities at VCC including participation at on and off campus events and creating and maintaining an online prescence for study abroad.
  • Serve as the main information contact for international partners and for inbound and outbound students on international mobilty programs.
  • Provide guidance to current international students to help resolve issues related to Canadian immigration, medical insurance, academic challenges and support, registration problems, health issues and other unique situations.
  • Interpret policy information such as, but not limited to: academic probation, suspension, refund and deferral to support students through decision making processes.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate international student programming and workshops which address immigration issues for international students including:
  • Study permit, work permit, and temporary resident visa requirements and processes;
  • Transition and immigration related workshops for graduating student
  • Complete required professional development annually to maintain RISIA designation.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments of IRCC Regulations and Policies.
  • Work closely with the Manager, International Student Services, International Student Engagement and Immigration Coordinator, and Director, International Education, to develop and implement programs to support international students' mental health and wellness within given budgets and in accordance with VCC's academic and strategic plans while adhering to VCC policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to direct reports by coaching and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Assists team members to define shared and individual goals, meet target dates and ensure alignment of team goals. Monitor and assess performance. Ensure adequate staffing to meet scheduled commitments. Authorize timesheets, work and vacation schedules, leaves of absence, overtime and substitution.
  • Contribute to effective employee and labour relations by administering the collective agreement(s), representing management in the grievance process and consulting with Human Resources regarding collective agreement interpretation, as appropriate. Provide input to management negotiating team for collective bargaining purposes, as needed.
  • Provide backup supervisory support for the International Student Immigration Advisors during the absence of the Manager, International Student Services
  • Assist in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of new international student orientations at the beginning of each term, with the objective of enhancing new international students' experiences at the College.
