Utilizing experience and expertise developed through over 56 years of service, Creative Energy is advancing a wide portfolio of new low‑carbon district energy systems across North America, including the revitalization and decarbonization of our downtown Vancouver steam energy centre. This will be one of North America's largest thermal fuel‑switch projects and will provide downtown Vancouver with renewable energy infrastructure for decades to come.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and Analysis, the Senior Accountant is responsible for various aspects of the accounting cycle.

Primary Accountabilities

• Responsible for full month‑end close of subsidiary companies, including:
  • Monthly variance analysis of operations results.
  • Monitoring of Regulatory deferral accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual journal entries.
  • Reconciliation of sub‑ledgers.
• Assistance with month‑end close of primary companies, including:
  • Preparation of revenue analysis for all revenue streams.
  • Preparation of monthly loan documentation and quarterly consolidated covenant reporting.
  • Assesses internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
  • Preparation of variance analyses and troubleshooting on an ad‑hoc basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with intercompany and shared service agreements, managing cross‑charges and ensuring intercompany amounts reconcile.
• Supervision and training of junior staff:
  • Supervision of full‑cycle AP and AR, assistance with customer and vendor enquiries.
  • Review of monthly bank reconciliations, GST and PST filings.
  • Review of monthly journal entries.
• Assistance with annual projects:
  • Preparation of audit working papers and memos.
  • Assistance with drafting of annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Assistance in the preparation of annual budgets.
• Payroll:
  
• Analysis of payroll costs and cross charges among the group of companies.
• Submission of pension and RRSP filing and remittance.
• Ownership of pension working papers, compliance and communication.
• Provides back‑up for processing bi‑weekly payroll for Canadian and US companies. Ensures all source deductions are correctly calculated and properly remitted.
• Reconcile & Remit union dues and WSBC and WSIB payments.

Qualifications And Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Minimum of 3 – 5+ years' of accounting experience.
• Big 4 experience preferred.
• Experience working in a regulatory environment.

What We Offer

• Competitive starting salary in the range $80,000 – $100,000; placement on the range is dependent on your applicable experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
