Position OverviewPrimary Responsibilities
Maintains information and appropriate files as it relates to the patient's chart and hospital records.
Demonstrates conflict resolution skills.
Provides a link between hospital staff and visitors/relatives by greeting, assisting, and guiding visitors.
Acts as a receptionist.
Performs duties related to the smooth operation of the area which includes but is not limited to the following:
Transport items
Perform errands
Assists with admissions, discharge and transfer
Clerical duties
Process doctor's orders
Phones staff for schedule availability
Assists with the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment.
Participates in the quality assurance activities of the hospital.
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment
Other duties as assigned
Education
Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent, post secondary education preferred
Completion of Medical Office Administration or Patient Registration Courses Preferred
Experience
Recent Unit Clerk, registration, admitting, and appointment scheduling experience preferred.
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in an extremely fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of hospital admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) systems preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology an asset.
Strong customer service skills and experience required.
Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
Ability to multi-task and proven organizational skills.
Proven innovation in problem solving and critical thinking skills required.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Demonstrates basic mathematical skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and discretion in matters related to patients, staff and other hospital matters.
Must be willing to work in all areas of Medicine Health Services.
Excellent work and attendance record required.
