Description:


Open to second-year post-professional graduate urban design students, and third-year architecture and landscape architecture graduate students this Option Studio is an opportunity to work on design projects at the scale of the urban district.

In this Option Studio students will engage in projects that will attempt to understand and represent structures in the public and private realms that constitute the urban fabric of contemporary cities.

Many of these structures are obscured or partially "out of sight".

Analyzing them is important to our understanding of the dynamic forces by which our cities are designed and built and the mechanisms by which society attempts to understand, guide and regulate the individual buildings, neighbourhoods, open spaces and infrastructure that are reflections of those forces.


Class Schedule:

L010- Tuesday 9:00-12:00, 14:00-18:00


Sessional dates of appointment:
September 1, December 31, 2023


Estimate of the course enrolment:
Approximately 16 students per section


Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I - $18,457.79; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $19,861.58; Sessional Lecturer II - $20,243.53; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $20,653.23; Sessional Lecturer III - $20,725.

52; Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $21, inclusive of vacation pay)

Minimum Qualifications:
M.Arch or MLA with an MUD degree or professional urban design experience preferred. We are seeking applicants with a proven record of teaching urban design studios at the graduate level. A knowledge of contemporary urban design pedagogy and the current state of the discipline is desirable.


Description of Duties:

Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials, supervision of teaching assistants; preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, final examinations, and deferred final examinations; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions, and student contact hours.
