Analyst

We currently, we have an opening for a Analyst), to join our Chemistry Department. Reporting to the Manager.

Primary tasks include the organization of day-to-day activity of the group: ensuring that the instruments are in good working condition, assigning tests to be done on instruments based on workload, monitoring the progress of data completion, providing status updates for projects and communicating any delays or issues that may impact meeting project deadlines.


Reporting directly to the Supervisor Analysts and Manager, Analytical, the Analyst conducts routine sample analysis as part of the team accountable for the generation of analytical results.

This includes running samples, operation and maintenance of analytical equipment, processing and reporting data, evaluating QC results and preparation of standards and samples as required.


The Analyst is also required to conduct maintenance and/or repairs under supervision, as well as, maintain communication with the Analyst Supervisors to contact repair representative(s) as required.


Primary responsibilities of the job:


  • Analyze samples for assigned tests on the required instrumentation ensuring:
  • Correct injection, proper integration, calculation and recording of sample results, etc.
  • Equipment calibration and verification are performed prior to sample analysis.
  • Standards and samples are analyzed within stability period.
  • Instrument performance checks and batch QC results are evaluated and within acceptance criteria.
  • Thorough QC investigations are conducted when instrument or control sample data fail to meet target values.
  • Process/integrate instrument data using instrument software. Review sample and QC data with assistance from Supervisor and Scientist as needed.
  • Report results through LIMS or legacy reporting. Review the accuracy and completeness of the data, prior to submitting to the Scientist.
  • Communicate promptly any unexpected results and outlier values to the Scientist. Investigate OOS as per SOP and under guidance of Scientist and Supervisor.
  • Report client samples in a timely manner to ensure deadline requirements are met. Communicate project status to Scientist, Analyst Supervisors and Analytical Manager.
  • Prepare standards and QC samples as required ensuring:
  • Accuracy and precision in proper preparation of solutions and standards.
  • Records of standards in use, retained or discarded are filed, uptodate and maintained in the database.
  • Records for standard preparation, including reagent information, date of standard preparation and date of expiry are properly documented.
  • Tidy work area and clean labware to prevent contamination.
  • Ensure proper performance of analytical equipment by:
  • Conducting routine maintenance and/or repairs, as well as more advanced maintenance if needed.
  • Troubleshooting instrument performance.
  • Communicating with the Analyst Supervisors to contact repair representative(s) as required.
  • Performing routine equipment verification and validation as per SOP.
  • Contact Supervisors to purchase items as required.
  • Proper documentation to maintain data integrity and complete audit trail as per ISO 17025 and GLP requirements.
  • Participation in internal and external audits as required.
  • The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, study plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Compliance to Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required Personal Protective equipment at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. (Chemistry, preferred)
  • Diploma (Science Laboratory Technician, Environmental Biology or Chemical Technology)
  • Chemical Engineering Degree
