LOCATION:

Ottawa, Ontario**
POSITION TYPE: Afternoon Shift (4 x 10 hours)*****: The Lead Hand Heavy Equipment Technician - Afternoons is responsible for scheduling and overseeing work completed in alignment with established procedures.

They will be accountable for ensuring a safe and efficient work culture. The Lead Hand will be expected to be billable approximately 60-70% of the time.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Licensed Heavy Equipment or Truck & Coach Technician
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
  • DZ license is an asset
  • 2+ years' experience Supervising/Leading a team of Technicians is preferred.
  • 5+ years of heavy equipment industry and equipment experience
  • Experience using ERP software
  • Experience setting up and operating complex machinery
  • Strong mechanical abilities, including hydraulic, pneumatics and electrical repair
  • Advanced experience using MS Office Suite, including Word and Excel
  • Safety oriented and strong understanding of provincial safety regulations. Previous health and safety supervision experience is an asset
  • Positive attitude with the ability to motivate, coach and train technicians
  • Team oriented and willing to assist others when required
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to plan and execute aspects of work independently
  • Commitment to customer uptime and ensuring customer communication is a priority
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES:


  • Oversee the daytoday operations within the Service Team to ensure Technicians are working safely and in alignment with JJE work procedures
  • Supervise the Technicians to ensure they are completing jobs on schedule and their work is meeting quality and efficiency targets
  • Assess quality of work to ensure optimal output
  • Routinely inspect the Shop to ensure it is kept organized, clean and free from workplace hazards
  • Make recommendations related to Shop equipment and ensure all Shop equipment is in good working order
  • Meet with the Branch Manager daily to discuss shift goals and review efficiency reports
  • Collaborate with the Branch Manager to review schedules, assign work, address and update customer status in accordance with internal protocols to ensure internal and external customer expectations are met
  • Meet with the Service Writer daily to review schedules, assign work, address and update customer status
  • Communicate effectively with customers on "in progress work" for updates or costing
  • Oversee all repairs, troubleshooting and diagnostics performed in the shop and sign off on repairs as required
  • Perform final run test of new/used equipment as required and sign off in the work order to mark the job as complete
  • Ensure required paperwork is completed for each job and submit to the Service Writer in alignment with JJE position
  • Assess and determine the training needs of Technicians and work with the Branch Manager and Human Resources Manager to plan training accordingly
  • Provide input regarding each Technician's performance to the Branch Manager during performance review process
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to Technicians
  • Ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Perform work on equipment up to 50% of time
  • Work in collaboration with other JJE departments and branches as required to ensure efficiency and customer service expectations are met
  • Provide training and equipment overview to customers as required on JJE or customer premises
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned
  • Prepare accurate quotes and design plans for new equipment as per customer and sales requests
  • Participate in customer Pre-Delivery inspections
  • Responsible for the quality control for work performed by technicians within the team
  • Provide guidance and training to technicians within the team
  • Advanced communication of any/all work segments that will be overestimated time
  • Responsible to monitor teams' efficiency targets
