Join our team As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

    Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL—designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.

    Sierra Space is seeking a Systems Engineer III – Ground Networks to join our expanding Orbital Mission Systems team. The Systems Engineer III will be part of the Ground Integrated Product Team (IPT) and work to design, integrate and test a secure ground network for a novel space platform. The successful candidate should possess a working knowledge of ground control networks for spacecraft, various ground network interfaces, and commercial and government terrestrial control, communication, and data networks.

    Job duties will include:

  • Analyzing customer capability and performance needs to define ground network and related mission solutions.
  • Developing ground network requirements, defining interfaces, conducting technical trades and preparing CONOPS.
  • Developing integration and test plans for ground network systems and participating in V&V activities and demonstrations.
  • Working with ground software teams to develop CI/CD pipelines for ground infrastructure and application deployment.
  • Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
  • Preferred:

  • Master's degree or higher in related field of study.
  • Ability to create and implement automated CI/CD pipeline-based DevSecOps systems.
  • Experience deploying and debugging cloud infrastructures.
  • Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework and US Government cybersecurity requirements for ground system architectures and software development.
  • Experience with Requirements Management and Model Based Systems Engineering tools, such as DOORS, CAMEO EA, Rhapsody, Matlab and SysML.
  • Experience with Agile development methods, processes, and tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc).
  • Knowledge of Python, Java, Ruby, Bash, C++, C#, or Go programming languages.
  • Experience with SW unit and/or automated testing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct project reviews and develop technical documentation.
  • Great attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams to solve hard problems in a rapid development environment.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
  • An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance preferred.
  • Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
  • Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

    Estimated Starting Salary Range:

    $104, $157,241.88

    Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
