PRACTICE SPECIALIST (Part-time, 6-month Contract)


WHO WE ARE


The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) regulates Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) and exists to protect the public interest.

By ensuring that RMTs maintain professional Standards of Practice and are held accountable for their conduct, CMTO protects the public's right to receive high quality, safe and ethical Massage Therapy treatment.

We are seeking two RMT's to fill the Practice Specialist role at the College. These positions are part-time, fixed-term contract roles with the possibility of becoming permanent after completion of the initial term. Our collaborative team has a growth mindset and a strong dedication to our mission. Our offices are conveniently located just steps from transit at Davisville subway station in midtown Toronto. Our "Remote First" working model enables CMTO staff to work remotely most of the time.


If you are an experienced RMT with a keen interest in educating, leading, and supporting others in the profession, we want to meet you ABOUT THE ROLE Under the direction of the Manager, Education & Practice, the Practice Specialists provide advice internally and externally about the College's position on practice issues and support the development of practice guidance.

CMTO Practice Specialists also collaborate with the Coordinator, Education & Practice, in developing and delivering educational programs to practicing Registered Massage Therapists, educators and students in professional massage therapy education programs and schools.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide timely and accurate practice advice to the College's registrants and other stakeholders on regulatory issues.
  • Interpret practice guidance for registrants and the public who contact the College seeking clarification relative to their specific circumstances.
  • Identify changing trends and emerging issues in Massage Therapy practice and perform forwardthinking analysis for the College.
  • Collaborate with College departments, teams and individuals to identify and resolve matters involving professional practice issues.
  • Provide recommendations and reports to support senior management decisionmaking.
  • Assist in identifying issues and opportunities for new and/ or revisions to existing educational program content and delivery methods.
  • Provide input for continuous improvement to content and delivery features of learning management systems and other technologies.
  • Support meetings with MT schools and other stakeholders to educate and advise them on current issues within the practice.
  • Support the development and dissemination of education through different media forms including video, live, elearning, written, etc.
  • Provide input on position statements or briefs to the QA Committee or Board as required.

SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge and broad range of experience as an RMT in Ontario.
  • Knowledge/experience in interpreting and implementing legislative requirements and internal policies and procedures daily.
  • Consultative skills: listening and responding in a helpful and clear manner.
  • Knowledge of other relevant legislations and regulations and all College policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Organizational, time management and planning skills and proven ability to manage and deliver on competing priorities.
  • Critical thinking, judgment and problemsolving.
  • Communication skills: strong verbal and written, ability to convey complex messages in plain language.
  • Interpersonal skills: collaboration and relationship management skills, ability to influence without formal authority.
  • Proficient in the use of technology in daily work (Microsoft Office suite, database software).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in Massage Therapy
  • A minimum of three years of practice as an RMT in Ontario
  • Registered and in good standing with CMTO.
  • Knowledge of legislation and industry standards including RHPA/code, MTA, etc.
  • Must be available 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
  • Experience working with elected and appointed Boards and Committees is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
