The Basic Gist_


The Assistant General Manager (AGM) works under the direction of the General Manager to assist in ensuring the operational success of both the front-of-house restaurant and bar operations of The Mule.

The AGM is responsible for directly managing The Mule's Bar and FOH Managers, supporting The Mule's day-to-day business needs, as well as contributing to long-term growth and development projects for The Mule with General Manager.

The Job:_

  • Work with the General Manager to manage the business aspects of the frontofhouse, including the restaurant and bar, including things such as upkeeping with legislation, negotiating with suppliers, managing budgets, and setting goals.
  • Ensure guests are given prompt, attentive, and unobtrusive service at all times.
  • Act as the boss in the absence of The Mule's General Manager, ensure proper frontofhouse supervision at all times, and handle any and all complaints or issues that arise in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner.
  • Oversee the hiring of all FOH staff including bartenders, servers, and hosts,
  • Oversee the training and orientation of new team members, and ensure all necessary training is completed.
  • Oversee FOH scheduling, monitor daytoday FOH staffing levels, and effectively adjust labour accordingly.
  • Oversee FOH inventory, and direct the FOH & Bar Managers to make adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are followed at all times, including health & safety and steps of service.
  • Liaise with the General Manager, FOH, and Bar Managers, as well as BOH Management, to ensure effective cooperation and communication at all times.
  • Take a proactive role in encouraging teamwork, cooperation, productivity, and a positive attitude within the working environment.
  • Be able to access and understand all functions of Silverware, and report weekly hours and shift reports as needed.
  • At the end of all shifts, assist in completing all necessary daily reports and approving all cashouts as necessary
  • Work as part of the FOH team in any position, including bartender, server, or host, as needed.
  • Oversee facilitating meetings such as regular staff meetings, performance improvement meetings, and annual/probationary reviews.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events in conjunction with The Mule's General Manager and the Other Bird's Sales Team.

How Much Work & When:_
hours per week

  • Must be able to balance weekly schedule based on business needs.
  • Must be able to adjust hours for administrative, social, or other needs outside normal business hours.
  • We don't want you to overwork, and we don't want you to underwork. We just expect you to manage your time.

Ideally, You Have Experience / Education:_

  • 7+ years of experience working in the hospitality industry, specifically working in contemporarycasual restaurants/bars is required.
  • 3+ years FrontofHouse restaurant management experience is required.
  • Postsecondary education in Hospitality Management will be an asset.

  • FOH restaurant management: 3 years (required)

Licence/Certification:
