The Department of Environment and Climate Change is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Off-Road Vehicle Trails Specialist (PM2)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must posses and maintain a valid full stage class 5 (5F) Manitoba Driver's License.
  • Must be able to travel by ground and periodically by air in Manitoba including overnight stays.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.

Qualifications:

Essential:


  • Post secondary education in the field of public administration, environment/natural resources management, urban planning, active transportation, landscape architecture, recreation management, environmental science, or geography. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in the research, development and implementation of policies, programs and projects.
  • Experience working with and developing relationships with Indigenous communities, municipalities and/or stakeholder organisations for the purpose of project development or issue resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve conflict effectively and respectfully with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to give technical and public presentations.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple, competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of recreational trail management, ecological principles, and conservation science, related to the use, development and management of recreational trails.

Desired:


  • Experience working with geographic information systems.

Duties:


Reporting to the Manager of the Provincial Trails Office, the Off-Road Vehicle Trails Specialist is responsible for providing advice and recommendations to management within the department and provides support to the division for implementing the Provincial Trails Strategy.

This position is responsible for designing and conducting engagement processes with external organizations, including Indigenous communities, as well as designing and developing research projects, methodologies and preparation of project budgets.

This position acts as the off-road vehicle trails specialist within the Trails Office for a variety of priority projects and programs that contribute to the promotion, management and development of off-road vehicle recreational trails in Manitoba.

The position addresses day to day functions and helps coordinate and align provincial government activities that can impact trails.
