The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act.

The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk.

This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

What We Do


The OSC is the only securities regulator in Canada to create a dedicated Investor Office with an aim to achieve better investor outcomes.

The

Investor Office


is a regulatory branch that sets the strategic direction and leads the OSC's efforts in investor engagement, education, outreach and research.

The Office develops investor policy; plays a key role in the oversight of the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments; and provides leadership at the OSC in the area of behavioural insights and improving the investor experience.

The Opportunity

The Digital Content Design Summer Student will provide support to the

Investor Office

Education and Outreach team to help with the ongoing maintenance of

website.


is one of Canada's most popular financial education websites, with hundreds of free articles, tools, calculators and other resources to help people with their finances.

In this role, you will support a content management system update and maintenance post a redevelopment of the website.

You will also be working with the content team on new rich media content for the website that helps increase visits to the website and enhancing the retail investor experience.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • In progress toward completing an undergraduate program including but not limited to Education, Business, Marketing, Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology
  • Basic courses or experience in web design, user experience design, legal, social science or business research are considered an asset
  • Ability to quickly learn the platform (Word Press) and collaboration tools
  • An understanding of how information is organized for easy identification and retrieval, including cataloguing and metadata standards for all formats
  • An aptitude for presenting information with high readability and in plain language
  • Experience writing content for a learning audience
  • Detailoriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of financial concepts and the securities industry is an asset
  • French language skills are an asset
