Under the supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator, the Assessment Specialist (Electrical) is responsible for performing condition assessments of buildings and other assets under the care of Municipal Accommodations.


Condition assessments are required to ensure compliance with various regulations, legislative requirements and best practices (Asset Management and Sustainability) as well as identifying and resolving critical building issues for the city's physical building portfolio.


As the _Assessment Specialist - Electrical,_
you will:

  • Perform physical building assessments with focus on Electrical systems (Switchgear, MCC, Distribution, UPS, Generators, Controls, Security etc.) of approximately 1,700 buildings and other assets.
  • Record building assessment results in the City's asset management database and provide ongoing support and reporting of same.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Journeyman Electrician trades person with ten (10) years related experience or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Limited electrical or other trades licenses are an asset.
  • Experience with maintenance of a variety of building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, civil).
  • Experience with various building types (recreational, commercial, residential).
  • Experience with various building construction and codes (new construction, 1960s construction and historic buildings).
  • Experience maneuvering and manipulating within a database system including inputting and updating data. Experience with VFA, Maximo, Peoplesoft or equivalent database is an asset.
  • Experience working with various trades in a maintenance environment (electricians, plumbers, carpenters, HVAC mechanics, technologists, engineers).
  • Experience working with contractors and/or consultants including managing contracts.
  • Ability to utilize a computer and proficiency using Microsoft office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations related to facilities and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and establish and maintain positive work relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to write effectively and concisely.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work in a deadline driven environment.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver's notice in force document upon request.
  • Must possess a St. John's Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent, or willingness and ability to obtain, within three (3) months.
  • Possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain training with the use of Building Assessment tools/software used by the City of Winnipeg.
  • Possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain various Safety training as required.
