The position at a glance


The team provides sector coverage to the major Canadian banks, insurance companies, asset management companies and sovereign entities covering the full suite of the CIB product offering.


The Associate assists and supports the Senior Banker in their efforts to promote the bank's product lines, both domestically and globally; a full range of investment banking services, complex bespoke solutions, specialist strategic advice and a comprehensive range of standard commercial bank products to the Banks, Insurance and Official Institutions portfolio outside of Quebec ("the Portfolio").


In detail
Working with the Senior Banker, you are responsible for all aspects of supporting the Portfolio and coordinating the lifecycle of transactions, including:

Ø Work in close coordination with the Senior Banker on the Portfolio and experts from specialized product groups to develop an in-depth knowledge of the Portfolio.


Ø Help develop new business opportunities within the Portfolio, including value-added client presentations based on relevant industry and content partner insight.

Ø Create strategic internal sector and/or client presentation materials, with Senior Banker oversight.

Ø Develop product understanding and expertise with product specialists focused on the Portfolio.

Ø Provide support to the Senior Banker in their regular marketing/calling program for the Portfolio.

Ø Act as support for the Senior Banker vis-à-vis clients, the business lines, and other departments of the bank.

Ø Assist in development & maintenance of client/prospect fact sheets (ratings, exposure, opportunities, deals, etc.).

Ø Support the Senior Banker in creation and maintenance of pipeline reports and weekly/monthly activity summaries.

Ø Assist in creation and facilitation of internal risk approvals, capital allocation committee approvals, etc.


Ø Assist in preparation of annual client budget and monitor monthly performance in coordination with the Senior Banker, Head of FIC & CEO, Canada.


Ø Assist in preparation of detailed internal client profitability models in support of selected transactions, including, SBLCs, lending and structured financings.

Ø Actively coordinate and participate with product specialist teams on client pitches and transaction execution for the Portfolio.

Ø Train and mentor analysts and interns.

Ø Work on ad hoc projects and deals as needed.


Ø Work in partnership with the KYC team on client matters related to KYC, DD, Compliance and assist with coordinating onboarding and re-certifications.


The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Education:

Ø Bachelors degree.

Ø MBA, CFA or Accounting Designation would be an asset.


Experience:


Ø Min 3 years' experience in Corporate or Investment Banking, Global Markets, DCM/ECM or Financial institutions coverage in combination with above.


Ø Some experience in a coverage role focused on the Banks, Insurance, Official Institutions and Asset Management sectors would be a strong asset.

Ø Client relationship skill and experience an asset.


Technical Knowledge:


Ø Strong understanding of credit / Risk process and ability to produce high quality assessment including key risks, mitigants and clear articulation of rationale to risk analysts, business partners, and committees.

Ø Modeling and valuation skills.

Ø Excellent Excel and PowerPoint.

Ø Strong written and verbal communications skills.


Ø Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply.

Knowledge of the English is required.

Ø Fundamental understanding of accounting principals.

Ø A basic understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concepts is desirable.
