Purpose

Key Areas of Accountability

Database Administration:


  • Install, administer, and maintain all SQL Server instances including service packs and security updates.
  • Setup and administer all DB environments including Dev, Test, Staging and Production.
  • Develop and manage databases across all environments including Database Services in Azure PaaS.
  • Create and manage users and assign permissions based on the approved and appropriate level of access required.
  • Create linked servers to SQL Server and other enterprise databases.
  • Create database backups and setup automated backup schedules.
  • Restore database from backups in the event of data loss, DB failure, corruption, and during regular DR testing.
  • Develop and manage ETL jobs, Azure Data Factory services, SSIS packages, and support the Data and Insights team with maintaining data integrity and quality.
  • Provide DB administration, support, and design for Capital and Operational IT projects, EDW and collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team on any required design activities.
  • Troubleshoot database or related issues as part of daytoday operational activities.

Documentation and Best Practices:


  • Define and maintain plans for monitoring and performance tuning: physical servers, virtual machines, database, and query tuning including the creation and maintenance of indexes, monitoring CPU, memory, and disk usage.
  • Define and implement Best Practices for database administration and data integration in both onpremises and Cloud environments.
  • Document all SQL Server environments, databases, processes, and workflows.
  • Ensure documentation is kept up to date based on any changes to environments or instances.
  • Adhere to Data architecture standards, IT best practices, methodologies, and disciplines.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Knowledge

  • College Diploma in Computer Science, IT or MIS with emphasis on Database Administration and/or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certifications such as MSCA in Data Platforms, or Azure Data Engineer Associate.

Experience

  • Working in an IT environment for 7 years in a Database Administration role.
  • At least 5 years' experience administering MS SQL Server 2012/2016 enterprise environments.
  • At least 5 years developing and managing ETL jobs in an enterprise environment
  • At least 2 years' experience managing cloudbased database technologies, including Azure SQL PaaS implementations.
  • Expertise in Microsoft BI and IM technology stack including Azure Data Lake and Data Factory.
  • Understanding of Incident and Change Management and ability to follow process, procedure standards and methodologies.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure, Business Applications, and Help Desk technology.
  • Understanding of Operational Data Store for Systems Of records (CRM, Finance, Sales and Operations) and EDW for Analytics and reporting.
  • Preparing database architecture reports for management teams.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and related user management tasks.
  • Working in an environment requiring constant and clear communications both verbal and written.
  • Working in a team environment and experience working cohesively with related IT teams
  • Understanding of the project management life cycle.
  • Gathering information, analyzing, and providing trending analysis.
  • Proven writing skills with the ability to organize and present information in various forms such as textual, graphical, and statistical.
