CENSUS DATA COLLECTOR (Census Enumerator)


3 Part-time, Casual Term positions: February - May weeks anticipated)
hours/week, with required flexibility


Musqueam is looking for 3 Census Data Collectors (also called Census Enumerators) to support outreach for the 2023 Musqueam Census.

Census Data Collectors are the face of the census to our community. You will distribute the survey, work with community members to complete the survey, and assist with data input. Position Summary

nəc̓əmat tə šxwqweləwən ct (We Are of One Heart and Mind) is the vision outlined in Musqueam's Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP).

The CCP provides leadership, administration, and membership with direction and guidance on community development to achieve this vision, including housing, education, environmental stewardship, recreation, health and wellness, and much more.

As part of our own planning cycle, we are conducting a 2023 Musqueam Census to see what has changed in our community since our last census in 2016 and to track progress towards the vision and goals outlined in the CCP.

Reporting to the Manager of Policy and Planning[DK1], the Census Data Collectors will engage with Musqueam community members to promote and record responses to the 2023 Musqueam Census.


Responsibilities:


  • Raise awareness about the Musqueam Census and promote the Census at community events
  • Conduct Census surveys with members (over the phone and inperson)
  • Transcribe responses to survey questions and input data into survey software
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other Census Data Collectors
  • Complete other related administrative duties as required
Skills and Qualifications

  • Successful completion of high school or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge, and experience
  • Reliable and selfmotivated
  • Respectful, open listener and clear communicator
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to use tact and good judgement in dealing with sensitive and complex issues
  • Passionate about community engagement, and enjoys working with a range of community members (youth, Elders, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in notetaking
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to do doortodoor canvassing to households for several hours at a time
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule (including evenings and weekends) to accommodate community outreach and engagement
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Musqueam community and our CCP is an asset.
Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in the office and out in the community
  • Census Data Collectors will work in a team of two and record Census responses in community members' homes or alternative locations if necessary
  • Depending on households, doortodoor canvassing may include requiring to navigate stairs, ramps, and/or gates
  • Census survey training will be provided, including data collection, cultural and emotional safety, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends to maximize outreach and opportunities to engage community members
  • Successful Criminal Record Check must be completed and must sign a confidentiality agreement
