Mechanical Technician - Class B Gas Fitter/Plumber/HVAC

Mechanical - Maintenance Department
(Class B Gas Fitter/Plumber/HVAC Technician) effective immediately, or a mutually agreeable date.

School District No. 47 serves the educational needs of approximately 3000 students through six elementary
schools, a secondary school and a number of other educational programs and facilities. School District No. 47
employs approximately 350 staff.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HVAC/Mechanical Tradesperson is responsible for a variety of projects
including renovations, repairs, and new installations at all our School District sites. The successful applicant must
be a team-player, ready to be part of a cohesive and effective team of professionals. The successful applicant must
be prepared to work effectively in a small team as well as independently to complete top quality work in various
District facilities. Experience and training in an institutional setting is a bonus

The Powell River School District prides itself on providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. This
Mechanical Tradesperson position works 7:00 to 3:00, Monday to Friday, however shift times may vary with some
afternoon work.

Position
This is a unionized CUPE L476 full time position. It offers an hourly wage rate of $38.57 per hour plus a liberal
benefit package including pension, health, vacation, and sick benefits.

Desired Qualifications

BCTQ in an applicable trade, ideally Plumber, Gas Fitter, Power Engineer, Refrigeration, or other trade supplemented

with experience in a variety of HVAC/Mechanical work.

Must hold a Class "B" Gas Ticket (preference given if you hold a Class "A" ticket or an electrical endorsement).
A valid Class 5 BC Driver's license.
Sufficient physical strength and health to perform the duties of the position are required.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and problemsolving skills.
Criminal Record Check Clearance.
Knowledge of BC Building Code, Plumbing Code, Safety Regulations, and industry best practices
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience in PVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper plumbing services.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Experience in BC Fire Code and sprinkler systems is considered an asset.
Experience in HVAC systems, including DDC Management, VRF systems, and hydronic systems considered an asset.
