About the role
We're looking for a
Unit Manager to join our growing team for a one year contract/secondment


What you'll do here:


  • Develop, recommend, and implement leadership strategies, organizational structure, and processes/technology improvement initiatives
  • Coach underwriters and assists in negotiating with brokers on more complex and/or larger risks and problem accounts.
  • Quote, negotiate and authorizes the acceptance of complex new business, renewals, and endorsements.
  • Train brokers and underwriting staff on underwriting matters.
  • Provide effective leadership by continuously keeping staff informed on changes/results and share responsibility for the overall performance, productivity and engagement of team members.
  • Assist with the development of recommendations for rating and product changes.
  • Audit policies to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the commercial managers in key brokerage offices on accounts, plans, and/or results.
  • Liaise with and uses Business Development Managers to reinforce and/or facilitate the desired effects to the broker's portfolio performance.
  • Develop and manages effective working relationships with brokers, staff, and other departments.
  • Promote companies' products through information sessions with brokers.
  • Establish and maintain service levels by organizing and/or monitoring work flow and setting priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in the establishment of premium and loss ratio targets. Assists with the development of the unit's expense budget.

What you bring to the table:

  • Post secondary degree from University or College diploma
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in coaching and developing staff
  • Demonstrates the Leadership Success Factors
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Completed or are working toward a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff and brokers
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills and capable of working in a fastpaced environment
  • Strong analytical skills and a high attention to detail
