Primary Objective of the Position:


The Category Manager will be a part of the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Team at Cargojet and will be responsible for delivering strong results that support the company's strategies while providing significant value to the internal business units.

This position will work to drive close collaboration, manage vendor relationships and their performance, and pursue value-creation opportunities through a strategic approach towards category management and sourcing best practices.

In executing these responsibilities, the Category Manager will develop and meet strategic goals related to spend management, growth, compliance, cost savings, quality of service and risk management.


Essential Position Functions:


  • Responsible for full category assessment that includes a review of contract expirations, benchmarking, and market analysis, contributing to the execution of the company's longterm plan
  • Responsible for owning category expertise across multiple categories and implementing a longerterm perspective while highlighting opportunities and risks in the respective areas of Spend without jeopardizing quality or business continuity
  • Support and assist with the development of documents for prequalification, tendering, and proposals.
  • Coordinate and/or provide ongoing training, education, and recommendations to internal Stakeholders on needs identification, effective specifications development, evaluation criteria, liability and risk for bid document formulation.
  • Partner with stakeholders to source products and services using proven tools, processes, and analytics to drive and achieve business results
  • Oversee the sourcing events with 3rd party partners ensuring a transparent and objective process.
  • Evaluate analyses of sourcing results from a total cost of ownership perspective, and provide recommendations for optimization and continuous improvement
  • Lead crossfunctional team to negotiate valuebased agreements with vendor partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of formal negotiation strategies and related documentation and participate in negotiations for large dollar value, high customer impact and multiyear contracts
  • Proactive execution of strategic sourcing projects, with strong internal stakeholder alignment to business goals and objectives
  • Compliance management to ensure the use of preferred and approved suppliers, improved working capital, and maximized savings are obtained
  • Management of supplier's contractual commitments performance to maximize savings and minimize risk
  • Research best practices and make recommendations for strategic sourcingrelated processes, policies and procedures
  • Create, manage and audit contracts by partnering with Legal and other internal stakeholders
  • Responsible to ensure that fair and ethical sourcing process is followed along with all applicable corporate policies and procedures
  • Maintain a high standard of integrity and professionalism in all business communications and relationships, both inside and outside the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • SCMP Accreditation from Supply Chain Canada is preferred
  • 57 years of postuniversity work experience in categoryspecific procurement to include sourcing, negotiation and contracting, preferably in an aviation, logistics or transportation environment
  • Knowledge of the drivers of operational performance and costs, including SLAs, performance management practices, and the value of risk within contracts.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build meaningful team relationships to drive results
  • Leadership presence and ability to present to Executives and VPs
  • Adaptable and flexible with ambiguity and change
  • Proficiency in analytical methods and deriving insights from data along with proficiency in procuretopay systems and processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated top performance in prior role(s) with increasing levels of responsibility
