The Opportunity

The South Bow Safety and Emergency Management group is seeking a dedicated Occupational Health Professional to join and grow with the South Bow Team as our Health Specialist to provide technical expertise in the coordination, administration, and governance of our fitness for work and absence management programs, based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Safety Program and Culture Manager, this position will provide guidance for occupational health and non-occupational related matters at South Bow and be skilled in process development as well as the creation of company standards. What You'll Do

• Be responsible for the governance and continuous improvement of South Bow's Fitness for Work standards and programs
• Interface with internal/external stakeholders (e.g., employment law, human resources, safety specialists, third party occupational health vendors) to improve business relationships and effective delivery of our program
• Provide subject matter expertise for occupational related illness/injury and fitness for work
• Oversee and support pre-employment/transfer medicals, health surveillance activities, alcohol & drug testing, and other fitness for work assessments on behalf of the enterprise
• Actively manage third-party medical service providers
• Contribute to the development of health protection and promotion strategies as well as the development of key performance indicators
• Support and execute South Bow's integrated disability management, mental health, and workplace wellness programs
• Provide subject matter expertise for non-occupational related injury/illness, workplace accommodations, return to work, absence management and psychological health & safety
• Support the organization toward innovative, effective strategies for promoting work attendance management and a culture of continuous improvement
• Work closely with management to ensure all Health and Safety as well as Human Resources policies and procedures are adhered to as required by legislation
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to deliver health-related programs/services
• Accountable to ensure consistent and accurate compilation, maintenance, and confidentiality of all electronic and hard copy health information
• Provide occupational health support in emergency response situations as required

Minimum Qualifications

• Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent, legally licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse
• 6 years of related work in occupational health, preferably in an industrial setting
• Experience with alcohol and drug testing requirements for employees covered by DOT Testing Regulation (49 CFR Part 40)
• Previous experience serving as Designated Employer Representative (DER) for employer with DOT covered employees (PHMSA, FMCSA, or FAA)
• Previous disability management and return to work coordination experience
• Knowledge of appropriate legislation related to employment, workplace accommodation and disability management
• Proven technical proficiency in the areas of occupational health and safety programs, operational management systems, corporate governance, and contractor management

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN(C) / COHN-S)
• Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholder groups in fitness for work determinations
• Previous experience with daily management of vendor relationships and service delivery
• Working knowledge of non-DOT and DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing best practices and regulations in Canada and the United States
• Technical writing ability with demonstrated experience writing, developing, and implementing work instructions, processes, and procedures
• Experience with pipeline and/or facility construction and/or within the Oil & Gas sector
• Excellent planning and organizational skills and must be able to manage rapidly shifting priorities as well as multiple projects concurrently

This position requires candidates to:

• Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
• Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training (estimated up to 25% of work schedule)
• Carry a cell phone and provide on-call emergency response support on occasion
