The
Canadian Mental Health Association - Peel Dufferin Branch is recruiting for a
Post-Secondary Student to complete a
Student Placement with the
Human Resources team.


The Post-Secondary Placement Students will promote mental health recovery by supporting group programming and direct client work in a peer-focused setting.

Recovery West provides a welcoming space for adults living with mental illness and provides opportunities that support mental wellness and recovery.

The placement is
unpaid and will be based out of the Hurontario St, Brampton office.

Some remote work is available during the current environment, but there will be a requirement to go on site as needed.

The placements will be up to 4 months long. Hours will depend on program needs and the student's placement and school requirements.


What You Will Do

  • Update HRIS on an ongoing basis and run reports for the Human Resources team on a regular basis
  • Provide recruitment support to the recruitment process including posting jobs, review resumes, coordinating interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Provide administrative support for organizational projects & initiatives involving Human Resources
  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources team
  • Organize and coordinate training and orientation for new hires
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety committee
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training
  • Support employees and management and communicate with them on any organizational policies and procedures, as directed by the HR manager
  • Serve as a role model to others by demonstrating a respectful and positive attitude towards individuals receiving support from CMHA Peel Dufferin representing the organization professionally
  • Promote and demonstrate the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization within the workplace and the broader community
  • Demonstrate a respectful and professional attitude and ensure the development and/or maintenance of a positive and supportive working relationship between departments/teams within CMHA Peel Dufferin and with external organizations, business and the broader community
  • Work within the health and safety guidelines provided by the agency, which includes annual mandatory training requirements

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Coordinate, attend, participate in team/staff meetings, and allstaff meetings as required
  • Participate in agency quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, Information Systems Support and Privacy and Security committees, special events, etc.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level
  • Participate in external committees as required
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as assigned from time to time
  • Participate in direct, regular, formal supervision and work to have client representation in program operations and input into related policies

What You Need to Join Our Team

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a University/College Human Resources program
  • Previous administrative experience, as well as experience working with Human Resources Information Systems would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment and take initiative when needed
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in person and over the phone
  • Some Knowledge of the Ontario Employments Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation and Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrated accountability with a strong work ethic is required. Must be selfdirected with the ability to exercise independent discretion; strong awareness of confidentiality is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive clientoriented attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team, management and clients


  • Strong computer skills

  • MS Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, databases
