The Department


The McMaster Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Office is an integral program in the continuum of education.

The mandate of the CPD Office is to lead Continuing Professional Development for FHS faculty and healthcare professionals, and collaborate with schools, departments, programs and faculty members in the Faculty of Health Sciences across campuses.


The CPD Office provides development and education opportunities for faculty in the FHS and healthcare professionals following the completion of formal training.

CPD activities consist of any educational event which serves to maintain, develop or increase knowledge, skills, attitudes, behavior, performance and competence.


The CPD Office scope of activities includes:

  • Designing, developing and delivering CPD activities including but not limited to conferences, courses, workshops and online learning.
  • Providing faculty development for faculty across the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Sciences.
  • Accreditation and Certification of physicians' CPD activities.
  • Supporting lifelong learning for health professionals.
  • Providing interprofessional and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Advancing CPD through research, scholarship and innovation.
  • Promoting intellectual inquiry, research, and dissemination of knowledge in CPD.
  • Enhancing collaboration of experts across departments, schools and campuses.
  • Evaluating CPD activities with a focus on knowledge, practice, and competency outcomes.

Job Summary:


The Business and Operations Manager provides strategic support with respect to assigning priorities, identifying, and implementing new initiatives, financial recommendations, and decision-making.

The Business and Operations Manager must be proactive, strategic, demonstrate business and financial acumen, initiative, and innovative thinking to support program success.

The Business and Operations Manager will provide effective and efficient management of all administrative activities of a large, complex program with multiple services (including cost recovery, academic units, and external partnerships).

The Business and Operations Manager is accountable for the management and administration of the financial, human, and physical resources in accordance with university policies and procedures and departmental goals and objectives.

In addition, the Business and Operations Manager ensures compliance with the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME) program accreditation standards, health professional licensing regulations, Public Hospitals Act and institutional legislative requirements.

Business and Operational Oversight:


  • Determines, develops, and maintains key performance indicators that effectively inform decision making, including metrics that support timely responses to emerging issues for the CPD office.
  • Develops business plans to address enrollment, collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, costeffectiveness and program responsiveness to planning committee and participant needs.
  • Develops and implements both short and longterm plans to ensure the effective and efficient use of all operational resources.
