To support us on our journey, Sinai Health is looking for an Information Specialist II to support our Medical Library


Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Information Specialist II is responsible for contributing to the provision of research services and information support to Sinai Health staff, students, clinicians, patients and care providers.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide timely and indepth information research and reference services at the point of need including medical literature searching, answering clinical queries, and supporting publications and systematic reviews.
  • Maintain library eresources, intranet and internet sites: monitors, edits and updates records, controls access, manages technical troubleshooting.
  • Provide individual and group training on information literacy, medical database searching, pointofcare tools and citation management.
  • Provide timely document delivery and interlibrary loan services.
  • Assists in the recruitment, training, and scheduling of Patient Education Pavilion volunteers in coordination with Volunteer Services.
  • Shared responsibility in the maintenance of online and print consumer health resources for the Patient Education Pavilion.
  • Participate in outreach and promotion of library services
  • Assist in the operations of the Patient and Family Library at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital on an asneeded basis
  • Monitor main library inbox by assessing and responding to queries.
  • Assist in the administration of timekeeping: builds and maintains schedules and timesheets, monitors sick and vacation days, submits timesheets to payroll per pay period.
  • Represent the library on the Health Sciences Information Consortium, Resource Sharing Subcommittee.
  • Recruit and train library practicum students.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development and maintenance of strong technical skills.
  • Participate and consult on Sinai Health committees.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor.


  • Job Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (MI or MLIS)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a health sciences library with proven ability to conduct medical database literature searches.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in providing document delivery
  • Excellent knowledge of medical literature databases including PubMed, Medline, PsycInfo, EBSCO, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, UptoDate/ClinicalKey/DynaMed
  • Excellent knowledge of Content Management Systems
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Photoshop considered an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to analyze information requests to determine which information resources best meet needs of researchers
  • Demonstrated ability to keep pace with changing technology and the needs of the organization.
  • Ability to travel between Sinai Health sites
  • Proficiency with both print and online biomedical resources
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational and time management planning skills in prioritizing workloads
  • Flexibility in carrying out other duties or special projects as assigned
  • Ability to value and model outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with library staff
